Just read that dealers offer perhaps 40% of spot value for junk silver. That is $4/ounce. Ouch. Is that right?

For the rip-off artists $4 per oz is the right price. Dealers, honest dealers mind you, are desperate for silver, junk or otherwise. Some will give you 85%-90% of the spot price of silver, or if you know anyone interested in selling let them know they need to shop around for the best buyers around, and that includes the buyers on this forum too. |

Dude, if you're getting ripped for that. Sell on ebay. HAHA, I sold my 2008proofs for 76 and 77bucks, my dealer only offered 30

I am wondering too now whether all the silver proof type coins and other numismatic coins will actually command lofty prices if silver price hits the ceiling. My worst-case scenario for metals is, aside from confiscation, that the street price for silver is all that will matter and not whether the coin is an eighteen-eighty something or other. I am a total newbie, but the way things are being put out there, I believe that if the regular folk start getting too worried about fiat currency and rush to buy precious metals, then spot and street price is all that will matter -ie- what a coin is worth as a barter unit etc, etc.
In all honesty, this is getting fascinating as the days go by. I am not so sure my job is safe and here we are going into a recession and the government is pledging trillions of dollars to shore up bad behavior of private concerns. I really hope my scrambling around for metal is totally over-reactive and things get better, but I suspect that very strange things are about to unfold for our money and its confidence. |

At the coin show today I was able to buy some 90% from one of the dealers after Neckro told me who had some. I got it for 8.8x face. His buy price was 8.4x face. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

Are there any "safe" jobs? I work for a defense contractor just recently awarded a 5.1 billion dollar contract. Sounds safe. But has the money actually traded hands yet? All bets are off in my mind. I wouldn't mind getting and extended vacation. |

Haha, I got a great deal at 9x personally. Way better then the 10x 10.1x face I have been paying. Was well worth the 1 1/2 drive personally. |
