What does the PL and DMPL mean?
I believe it is a poular coin, but I have a 21d that looks in beautiful shape...

PL means prooflike. It's a coin struck for circulation that most likely because it was one of the first few off of a die set has a mirrorish finish.
DMPL is Deep Mirror Prooflike. This is specified in the ANA grading guide as being mirrored to a degree where you can hold a ruler up to it and see (I think) the number 5 (5 inches away) reflected in the coin. Not sure about the 5, but too late for me to look up the specific. In the PL, you would only be able to see up to the number 2 on the ruler.
1921 P,D, and S are popular for hoarding and as type coins, but they are far from rare. They can be quite beautiful though. |
