Hi all-
Not trying to be a party pooper or a doomsayer, but I noticed that there's been like 10 new threads on silver roll hunting in halves and dimes.
I'm happy for everyone, and I'm certainly not the authority on it, but it dawned on me that with this many new people casting their nets out to harvest silver, the cat's obviously out of the bag; how much longer will it be feasible?
I guesstimate by next December, (if the dollar is still a currency), halves will be pretty much tapped. Dimes are a stretch already, but they'll probbly be picked as well.
Crazy old ladies who were alive during the era of silver coinage (and have some to make random CWR deposits)are dwindling, as well.

That's why I'm so grateful for every 90% half I find!!!

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

Well at my bank I am the 1st person to do this, so its not that common yet. Thank God, most americans are lazy.
I figure (considering my time is free, well it has value becuase I am doing this with the wife) if I can avg 2 40% per $500.00 box. This will still provide a higher interest rate then if I were to leave in acct earning 3%.
2 40% @ $1.33 melt - the 1 mile in gas at the IRS mileage rate $.58 = $2.08 x 52 weeks, equals $108.16 profit or 21% interest.
And it's fun, can't put value in this much fun.

| But if that's all the silver you're finding, is it really worth your time? It would seem better (although slightly more expensive) to troll for lower-priced auctions on eBay to get silver instead of spending all your time searching coin rolls and ending up with nothing. I certainly wouldn't want to be left with nothing for all of my efforts, which is why I'm still dropping a few bucks here and there on eBay just to be able to get some silver. I'd much rather pay $2.25 a gallon for gas than sit around waiting for it to hit $1.75 while everyone else buys all the gas that's left and I end up with nothing. |

If I had free time, I'd love to give roll hunting a shot, but I almost never have enough free time to do anything like that. I guess it depends on how you value your time. If it's something you enjoy, as oober does, and would otherwise just spend that time sitting in front of the TV or fishing (or, perhaps, sitting in front of the TV watching fishing...), then great!
On the other hand, you could get a job at Sheetz for $9.35 an hour, and after taxes, make about 4 ounces a day. That's probably not nearly as much fun though. |

Yeah I saw a poster up at one of them awhile back. I was pretty surprised...I make a lot less than that doing skilled technology diagnosis and repair work for my university (the same thing the Geek Squad type businesses charge $100/hour for ).
I just looked at the Sheetz website for the fun of it. They have positions at a kitchen facility that start at $9.50 for bakery, $10.00 for food prep, and $11.00 for store delivery. |

Don't give oober too hard a time, as he said its fun findin your own silver and its quality time with the wife. All my X and I ever did together was watch TV cause that is ALL she ever wanted to do. "Wanna go out to eat?" "No there's a movie on I've only see 100X's" OK, I'm goin to the bar, wanna come? Do they have cable? Them ones and two and bonuses add up faster than you think oober, before you know it you'll have a coffee can full, I use a dime box when it gets full loose of 40% I dump them out and count, then put them back in neatly to make more room. Box is full I sell them. HH Mark |

If you look on the treasurenet forums, where they have an active coin roll hunting section, you'll see people with the same concerns. The cat is out of the bag - the silver is going to dry up - from 2006.
There's definitely less than there used to be, but I don't think it's going to dry up for many years.

With the official COMEX price of silver down J6P will think silver is a bad investment and not worth holding onto.
Since only silver hunters/coin collectors know about silver coins and how a small precentage still circulates, I doubt the silver finds will become as scarce as finding indians in the wild.
It takes determination and a good sized budget to buy so many rolls of coins, sort through the coins and dump the non silver coins back to the bank. This level of determination to find silver in the wild is just too much for the average J6P to bother with. Much like sorting for copper or nickel, the number of sorters is not in the tens of thousands (maybe in the low thousands) not enough to cause the silver supply to dry up completely nor in a short timeframe. |

I have a source in an untouched and virgin territory (wont disclose the location) but he has found over 30- 90%ers and many many 40%ers in less than $100 searched. It is almost certain that where my source lives coin roll hunting is extremely rare.
Ill be paying 7x face for 90%ers. My source is my dad |
