I bought another box of dimes today and the first roll had a 1941 mercury dime. Thats my third mercury and my eighth silver dime. I know a lot of folks don't fool with dimes but I dig em'. Right now I'm sorting nickels, dimes, and halves. I've never bought any quarters. I read on here that quarters rarely yield any silver. I had to have a break from sorting halves. Been getting lots of skunks. Anybody here sort dimes?

Congratulations on the Mercury find. Any silver find is awesome, let alone one of those. How well are the dimes treating you? I've never bought dimes to search personally.

| Silver in the first roll is always good. Searching after a silver find is pleasurable because you have already had success. |

I get a box of dimes from time to time. Sunday I got a box, 1 Merc and 2 Rosies. Half of my halves didn't come in this week so yesterday in desparation I scrounged 3 boxes up- total 2 Rosies for my trouble. In August I was burnt out on halves and searching perion so I was gonna quit when I took vacation. I switched a couple of large orders from halves to dimes right before then. On Thursday I bought $3K, then Saturday $6K, I think I got just over 60 out of that 9K. My theory was that I had grown accustomed to spending large amounts of cash daily and if I didn't buy $$$ with it I may just pi$$ it away- so hey I kept the money and got more silver for the hoard. Dimes are a nice diversion but on average 1/box, at least I'm not blowing the money. HH Mark |

I lost track of how many skunks in a row I've gotten with halves. The nickels are starting to peter out on me again. I bought 10 boxes of dimes. Finished sorting them this morning. Scored 13 Ag, no mercuries though.

Do dimes go as fast through the coin counters like pennies do? It may provide an alternative to searching half dollars. With dimes, you just open the rolls and look on the edge. You can sort them swiftly and then just take them to the coin counter and have them run through like pennies. I dumped a few hundred dollars in halves yesterday and it took a while for them to clunk through. The 700+ pennies I dumped in there went through like butter. Sorting halves is fun but the dumping of them is erratic right now. I dump some in the counter and bring rolls back to banks all around the area. I try to mark some of them to see if they come back to me. |

My dump bank has the teller do the cointing, hence a better counter. THis is why I use them, It took about 1min to count up a box of dumped 1/2's this morning.
Dimes I have been avg a little over 1 90% per box. Takes me about 30min to sort looking at the sides. |
