It happens. Don't give up just yet....
Deal |
Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Hi there-
Don't sweat it. Law of averages states that if you simply sort 1,000,000,000 more halves, you'll find over 5000 90% silver halves and 10000 40%'s!!!
You'll be swimming in silver in no time!

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

I'm trying silver halves for the first time this weekend. My bank (a credit union) called the other day to make sure that I knew they had to order two boxes for me rather than just one as I originally asked for. Of course I said no problem because I only ordered one thinking I would ease my way into more if I had luck.
Anyone else have to order in multiples of two boxes? Just curious. |

| JD4x4, I can only speculate that they have a minimum free order. A $1000 order doesn't cost them anything while a $500 does. That's just a guess. I started going after halves about a month ago. I'm glad I did. The kennedy halves to keep are from 1964 to 1970. Of those, the 64's are the best as they have 90% silver versus 40% for the others. |

Ok folks, I picked up my two box order of halves this morning and began sorting one. I got 8 rolls unrolled with no silver and decided this was looking like another skunk. I got in my truck and went to about 10 banks or so and picked up 76 customer wrapped rolls (CWR'S). I will update this post as things go on. Update: Found a 64 in the 6th CWR. |

Well, I picked my two boxes up on Saturday and only just finished one of them. A good starter box, imo.. 1 90% Franklin and 5 40% JFKs. I'm happy. And hooked so far.

| JD4x4 When they order coin from the FRB they have to order coin in particular quantities, and halves need to ordered in $1000 quantities. They might be able to order the coins loose, which would save you time time of breaking rolls. |

Thanks for that info. They did mention the FRB so I guess that's it. It's not the same place that I get my pennies from, and I'm not used to orders coming straight from the FRB (that I know of, anyway). I'll also ask about loose..thanks again. |
