Hi everyone

I read lots of post about guys using ryedale coins machines and such. I was just wondering how you guys carry all those pennies out of the banks at a time.

Say you want $200 worth. Do you just take 2-3 loads and bring them to your car or how to do you do it?

Thanks

HR

If its a new bank I go in first and ask if I can buy xxx amount. If they say yes and have 2-300 and I was after that much, I just ask them "you mind if I go get my cart"? never a problem. Some even offer their cart to me.

I have these heavy duty plastic, stackable tubs. I fill them and cart, then stack them on a dolly. Odd looks by other customers, but the tellers know me. Heck, they probably know my vehicle by now. Same goes for when I return my loose zincs.

Welcome Highroller, I have always wondered the same thing. When I carry those canvas bags to my car a would be thief doesn't know they are "JUST" pennies. If those bags were quarters or half dollars there would be a lot of money there.

Get more. Who is gonna try and run of with 4-500 in cents? Surely they would be easy to catch. I'm much more worried about someone snatching a fistful of dollars from me and running than cent boxes. I also carry a collapsible baton in my back pocket.

At the credit union I get them in $50 bags which I either carry(up to 4 at a time) or they let me use their cart.

In my area we only deal in rolled coin. Hopefully I get boxes of coin, or sometimes plastic bags with 5 blocks of ten rolls. Otherwise it is always blocks of 10 rolls. I just walk in with a rubbermaid tote either stacked with coin, or empty to stack with coin. I tried ordering but that was just leading to skunking (new/mint sorted), and necessitating me following a schedule of pickups - which felt too much like work. I tend to find my self in various parts of the metro area regularly, so now I just do drive bys and that yields enough coins and no skunkings.

How are you going to have time to get your batton out when your pushing your cart or carrying 2 bags of pennies and they get you from behind?

And what if instead of pennies you had half dollars...thats $500 a box. The theif doesnt know what you have and would wait till you get outside and are distracted to attack

This thread wasent suppose to be about getting mugged or anything though. I just know that when I was going to banks and getting pennies I remember how much of a pain it was to get $200 worth of pennies and try to lug them to the car in one trip!

I have thought about having a duffel bag or something like that but I go to many differnt banks that I dont have accounts at. They give me enough weird looks when I ask for all their half dollars! I wouldnt wanna know what their reaction to me carrying a duffel bag in..

Think security if your that concerned. Don't tie up both hands, I use one to pull a cart. Stay vigilant with your eyes. Smile, nod, MAKE EYE CONTACT.

As for having time, drop the money! I can have my asp out in my hand fully extended in less that 2 seconds. They have to pick it up to get it, and that could be several hundred pounds, or at least 30 even if they just grabbed 2 boxes. I will catch them.

Also don't look like a victim. I look rough. Not a little, bit, I mean full bore rough sometimes. I have a full beard, I trim 2-4 times a year, hair down past my belt, and tend to wear a camouflage western-ish style hat. Before I got my asp, I wore a fixed blade belt knife openly, never really had an issue with it.

I use this look as security, and recognition. Once you meet me, you don't forget me. My tellers like me because I am friendly, and flexible, I explain to them what I am doing, and even have lists from certain tellers of coins and dates they collect for me to keep an eye out for. And the occasional chocolates wouldn't hurt either.

Security should not be an issue. I use at most a wheeled overnight luggage piece and can wheel $300 one handed with it. Plus a lot of banks have their own security guards. Smile, make eye contact, be confidant, and if all else fails, bribe a friend to go with you.

What about bringing the pennies back into the banks to dump them. Do you just all of a sudden show up with a cart full and than sit there and wait for 20 mins while they count them for you?

Pretty much. Takes a little while longer than 20 minutes though. Security for me is not an issue. I'm ready should the need arise....

I don't know if this is true of bigger dumps but with small dumps once the tellers know you, they don't generally count your returns...or at least they don't do that out here in the country (only time that has happened for me is once at a BB&T branch and that was a corporate required 'spot check'...since I had only turned in $3.00 worth of pennies it was not a huge inconvenience for me)

Not where I go. (Knocking on wood.) Some people have horrible issues with that though. Luckily the banks I use have quick counters. Besides it is their job....

You need to spread you action around. Dump only so much at a time. Don't swamp them during peak hours. Cooperation is the key. And chocolate doesn't hurt....

Bribing them with chocolate for doing their job is a good idea. It is more about appreciation rather than a bribe.

I usually use my flat dolly cart when picking up a standard load or taking in a decent size dump. It is rated for 660 pounds, so 350 pounds is not a problem. 24 boxes stack nice and neat on it, and the handle folds down for easy storage in the trunk. For small loads like 6 boxes I just use a couple of tote bags.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

If they arent busy, one of the guys that works there helps me.

My bank just got bought out. And there is a branch practically across the street. We'll see what happens.

I've never bribed them with anything. Just friendly with them. They think I'm crazy. I like the thought of them thinking I'm crazy.
