I took a drive down into Florida today and stopped at about a dozen banks. The first bank was just before I got to the state line, and when I asked if they had any halves they wanted to get rid of, the teller asked me if I had an account there. This is the first time I have been asked that when asking for halves. I told her that most banks are happy to get rid of their halves, which is true. She says they don't exchange currency with non-account holders. I asked to speak to the manager and she said she was off today. I am gonna call tomorrow. This bank is close by and if they have a bunch of halves, I want them. I may even open an account. Back to the main idea, which was my acquiring $830 in halves from the banks in Marianna and Chipley. $780 of that came from one bank, a Wachovia. The lady was really happy to be rid of them. When I found out they had that many, I asked if they were fed rolled or if they were turned in by someone. When she said they were turned in, I asked if she thought they were from a collector who had turned in the ones they didn't want. She said she didn't know but they had been in the vault for years. I just started unrolling and the second roll had two clad halves...a 67 and a 69. Nothing in the third roll. I also bought a box of nickels and a box of dimes while I was in Florida. More to follow.

Fourth roll: 5 - 66's!
Ninth roll: 6 - 66's!

Ya in the vault for years - music to our ears :)

Well, Legacy it was going good at first. After about the tenth roll, I started hitting zeros. I noticed that the rest of the rolls were all of the same kind of design. I have $310 left and I am 99% sure they are the remains of someone's box. Its ok though, I did find 13 clad halves so its not a total loss. Of course I will open up the remaining rolls. Sometimes the rolls from the fed are better and sometimes those turned in by various customers are better. If I get surprised and do find some silver in the remaining rolls, I'll report back.
