Hi all,
Looking to jump into some gold, but all the prices for US gold and bullion are just bloated beyond belief. (+$1000 for 1 oz? What happened to $850???)
However, one small niche that seems to have prices at least 20% within spot is foreign gold coins.
I don't mean Krugers or sovereigns; they're pretty crazy too, but French Roosters and Swiss Helvetias seem to be more sensible in these times.
Has anybody pulled the trigger on gold coins like this? Any stories of Horror or Hope? If you have ever tried to sell these types of coins, do you get stupid looks and bad prices, or are they fairly priced?
Also looking at some gold Argentinos.

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

You always like international coins wags - you're my kind of guy.
I would think that buying anything recognized closer to spot is fine. Don't expect a big premium over spot when you sell either, and there should be no issues.
For another option, one of our members makes 1/10 oz gold coins You must be logged in to see this link. he posts as jeweler dave or something like that here. I've not bought from him before - so do your own due diligence. |

| I have a few gold roosters and Swiss gold francs, don't know about the USA but in UK they sell well on eBay, but are better value over spot generally. Pretty on the eye too. And as they are small gold coins easily able to sell or trade one if you want to free up funds more so than 1oz coins |

Or you could just make your own gold coins from materials at hand. This might explain some of the silver pennies reported here. |

I like foreign coins, I dont think I'd ever pull the trigger on any sizable amount of foreign gold. 1/10 oz or 1/5 oz or something, maybe. I'm going for recognizability with the gold. Also the dealers around me do not deal in foreign coins, so if I went to sell them, I'd have a hard time selling anything other than maples, krugerands, the perth mint (Australia), or pandas.
So if you have someone to sell them to, go ahead and get them. |

| Gold is gold, as long as it's a coin minted in a recognizable country (France and Switzerland have long histories in minting gold coins and making gold bullion) the. It's worth picking up if it's keenly priced |

Ducats and philharmonics (Austria), ducats and guildens (the Netherlands), British soverigns are all well-recognized European coins. Premiums are low on ducats and guildens. Mexico mints a plethora of gold coins ranging from a little under 2 grams to well over 40 grams. Premiums on these coins are also low.

I got a gold ducat from APMEX... same week I bought it, I saw an identical coin sell on eBay for a couple dollars more, so I'm not too concerned about resale.
As with anything, though, make sure you double-check that the coin has the metal content the seller claims it has... |
Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead? |
