I don't usually post in the Scrap Metal Area - but I saw this story tonight. Another benefit to recycling:

A couple spent three months collecting and recycling litter to pay for their honeymoon flights.
John and Ann Till, from Petersfield, in Hampshire, UK took thousands of cans and bottles to a recycling centre at a nearby Tesco supermarket.
For every four recycled items, they earned a reward point which was then converted into BA air miles.
They amassed 36,000 miles, which they used to fly back in business class from their US honeymoon.

| Yeah, I pick up cans and bottles on my bicycle rides. The deposit return money on it I count for the gas money I spend for my job commute. Actually, too, I need some incentive to ride my bike nowadays when banks are closed on weekends and such. Otherwise, I'd ride my bike to do some bank runs. I can not believe how much litter is out there. |

| I was thinking the other day as I shook a slug out of a roadside beer-can how nice it is that gasoline prices are dropping. Of course, as we head into the cold months, I can not do the bike riding/ can collection routine as often. Where it used to take 80 cans/bottles to get a gallon of gas, now it takes about 54. Back in the days $1/gallon gasoline what a hoot it would of been if I bothered to collect 20 bottles for a gallon. At first I just rode my bike to save on the gasoline cost doing bank runs looking for copper pennies and after a while I just could not take it anymore riding my bike and seeing all the nickels all over the place waiting to be picked up..... |
