I looked on coinflation.com and they have the metals of the 1946-2006 nickels on there and the 1942-1945 nickels on there. I was wondering what the nickels before 1942 were made out of?

Same as what they are now, 25% nickel / 75% copper, if I remember correctly.

I agree. Nickels made 1866-1941 have the same 75% copper 25% nickel composition as nickels from 1946-present. Only the 1943-1945 and some 1942 nickels differ from that.

Coinfacts.com (You must be logged in to see this link.) has good info on composition and mintage, and may answer other questions you might have.
