Twice a year we have a church activity at my house where the men get together and shoot skeet.
None of us reload, so we always have a ton (500+) spent shotgun shells. My son has collected a large bag of these and now he wants to know if they have value as scrap.
I presume that some of the bases are make out of brass and others are made of coated steel. How can we tell the difference?
It's not for scrap, but I have seen the plastic type of shotgun shells that have had the small Christmas lights put through the metal end to where the light is inside the plastic part and these are selling in specialty shops for a pretty penny.
i found a box of empty shell while i was out collecting scrap i picked them up as i think some people on here may reloadif you would like to trade for them pm me
I cannot believe tthat this thread is still active. I got real busy in late sept to nov and didn't look at it.
A while back someone said that the scrap yard would not take .22. I think that I know why. I find a lot of shells in my back yard. Most of the .22 shells have disintegrated. They must contain zinc or some other metal that does not last against the elements. They certainly are not solid brass.
As far as my church group, the 5 of us got 5 deer from my land. Season ends in a couple of days. I figure that isn't bad since I am the most experienced hunter with only 10 years.
knibloe, nice haul on the deer. Yum, deer jerky....

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
