Thanks for the reply. I offered the seller $118 based upon this moment's silver value. If things turn out the seller wants to maybe deal, I will see if the coin(s) go for higher when I examine. In all honesty, I would be glad to tell the guy to go to dealer and get way over spot if they have a rarer coin. I think there are enough junk silver coins out there that I should not get caught up in numismatics. |

Hi Jerry....I buy off of Craigslist too. Do you want to PM me a link to your ad and I will do the same? I am curious to see how you're advertising and maybe we can swap ideas. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

I'd separate it by:
1. 1834 half - depends on condition, at least silver price 2. two nickels - barely worth bothering with, especially if partial date - maybe 0.50-1.00 for both 3. all other - silver spot or (preferably) less
Tell him not to clean his 1834 half before you get a chance to look at it, WheatieFan

1834 halves in the '08 redbook are listed at $60 in good. It would be a "Liberty Capped" half dollar (1807-1836). In real life, that's likely to be closer to $40 or $45 retail, and probably $18-$25 wholesale. If it's less than G, wholesale would like be about $10-$15. To be a "Good" the head will be outlined with no detail and on the reverse all the letters must be complete, the eagle outlined but worn smooth. A "VG" will have a full liberty on the forehead.
Good luck! |

Wouldn't surprise me if 1834 was a typo and he meant 1934. |

Hi there,
JMO, but if it's an 1834 half, maybe you should just pass on that item if you don't want to get into numismatics.
The other stuff should go for close to spot. Don't let the seller gouge you on the silver dollars if he comes across saying, "there are rare, etc." There's TONS of silver dollars out there. Spot or not!

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

The seller never re-contacted me. Maybe they found a better offer? Well, let's see if the floodgates open for people selling as silver prices climb back up with this banking crisis being bounced around like a national campaign. |

Another seller with this info emailed me:
quote: I have a coin that you might want to purchase. It's a 1900 Silver Dollar. It's only in fair condition, but for the year it's not bad. Let me know if you're interested and about how much you would like to offer.
I am thinking of offering $15 for it sight unseen. The silver value is ~ $10. The coins go for $20 range. The coin sounds like it is not in high quality shape. Comments?
