Tulving has Vancouver Olympic silver Maples for $2.79 over spot with only a 200 coin min. in contrast, eagles are sold out and regular maples sell at 3.99 over spot. Why do folks seem to be avoiding these?

Modern olympic coins are just not that popular and I think that a lot of people feel that their premium will either stay flat or go down in the future.

that explains the modest premium and their availability. but shouldn't they command at least the same premium as a regular maple leaf coin? isn't the metal content the same?

The Olympics coins are exactly the same content as the regular issue Maples. Vancouver dealers want an extra buck for the olympics coins. They had a much bigger premium on ebay last time I checked. They are nice looking coins, and I bought a bunch because the dealer was out of the regular ones (and pretty much everything else). They are fine to own, but unless you are going to flip them on ebay for a profit now or in 2010 around the Olympics time, don't expect to get a big collector gain.

I was wondering the same thing--APMEX was selling them for close to $30...they go for a lot on ebay--they are silver and they are Maples--if I had the money to buy 200 I would already have gotten them from Tulving--it is the best deal around now for gvt issued silver--but I am surprised that they have not sold out yet...maybe it has to do with the fact that they are in the old style plastic sheets and not tubes??? I would have expected that they do command the same premium at least, as regular Maples...if you have the cash, I say go for it!

I found a great trove of Olympic Maples at a local dealer.
He is selling them at the same premium as "regular" ones.

Brand new 2008 Maples are available in both tubes and plastic sheets. Plastic sheets for 10 a time (or cut the sheets down) or tubes for 25 coins. All the Olympic ones I've seen are in the plastic sheets but I did not ask for a tube of them. I think ASE's come in 20 count tubes (correct me if I'm wrong-I don't own a tube of ASE's yet), so remember the differance if you want to buy by the tube.

Or you can buy a "box" of 200 (20 sheets of 10 coins). That works well too! :)
