Hi all,
I was wondering if it's possible to have refiners or jewelers make silverware sets for you.
The reason I ask is that I'm interested in getting a sterling silverware set, but one to KEEP AND USE, not to scrap.
Only problem is, the sets run between $3000-$8000 for maybe $400-$500 worth of silver.
Do any refining outfits or jewelers make sterling silverware if YOU provide the silver? How about sterling water jugs, etc?

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

Why not look for a used set? |

| Yummm Silver... I eat from the same forks that my family and guests used yesterday and last week (ya we wash them first). You ever eat in a resturant wags? I had some fun on ebay building on my mom's set of silverware she got from her mother. Pretty reasonable way to go if you are patiant, pick a popular set with enough pieces trading, and watch for the deals. |

Hi there, Actually, I can't even remember the last time I went to a restaurant with silverware- it's always been pizza, or Subway, etc.
Anyway, looks like I might have to bite the bullet and buy new or piece it together, as suggested.
thanks for the input yall.

I have looked at making silverware... the thing is that the tooling is really pretty expensive to buy and/or tough to make. I have books about it... but it's a very specialized process... much more difficult than mere coins! So the fact that a set of silverware might cost $3000 or more new for $500 worth of silver is not at all outrageous.
That said... looking for used is a good bet. Problem is that so many vintage sets were scrapped in the Great Meltdown of 1981 that the supply of old sets is much more restricted than it used to be. Supply/demand being what it is, it's hard to find anything cheap. But real sterling flatware is a joy to use, and supposed to have antibacterial properties as well.
Good luck!

| I'd like a set! Anyone willing to sell me one out of their scrape pile? It doesnt have to be fancy, just useable. I'm sure some of u have complete sets set aside as "Scrape" |
