I just got to thinking, most of us on here are grabbing all the PM we can as prices keep dropping because we're looking much longer-term at the demise of the dollar, but do you think there will come a point if the downward manipulation of silver prices continues for a while that a lot of people will decide they'd rather cash out for FRNs instead of holding on to real money? If this happens, wouldn't that depress prices even more and make things even rosier for buyers, at least until the market manipulation is finally dealt with by the feds?

Nickelless, seems to me that the current freefall in silver and gold have much more to do with many of the big money managers moving thier clients money out of all commodities than the decisions of traditional pm investors. As such I expect a big fast turnaround ...someday... if I just knew when, ahh. Meanwhile they keep liquidating. |

Not only are people going to cash-out but many are not going to want to even look back at silver again. Nothing like buying into silver high and watch the floor fall out from under you. Especially when they were told so often that silver was a "sure thing". Perhaps it is long term, but just tell that to the new investor and his wife who thought he had it all figured out that the dollar would be toast by now.
I don't think the Feds will deal with any silver market manipulation. Either there isn't a silver market manipulation or they, the Feds, were the ones who planned it. |

If you thought silver was a good deal at $15 or higher then you need to trust your gut. Keep your eyes open and read all you can. If you still want to buy some more, go for it. But forget market timing and trying to buy at the lowest, if you can find it that is without having to pay out the nose for it. Regardless, if you are treating silver as a real investment and not something that just makes you feel good then you need to have an exit plan i.e. a point when you willing to sell and walk away.
If you have silver just to make you sleep better at night that is fine too. Just keep it in a safe place!

If you can find PMs at a decent price... BUY! you can always sell on eBay right away for an instant profit. These current prices dont seem to apply there. |

The big question has always been and remains, not if the dollar is going to 0, but when the dollar is going to go to 0. All fiat currencies throughout history have gone to zero. The US dollar will be no exception and it is showing many signs of its "old age".
However unlikely it may seem, there is always the chance that we could pull out of the current dollar crisis and the final crisis is delayed for a year or two or even another decade or two.
So, you not only have to prepare for the crisis, but you have to have staying power. If you shoot your wad or go out on a limb preparing for the crisis and can't hold on indefinitely, there is a good chance you will be wiped out by a counter move like this and possibly be left unprepared when the final decline starts.
Right now the powers that be are doing everything that they can to rescue the dollar and frankly the results are spectacular. At this point two things could happen. One, the rescue works, confidence is restored, and the crisis is delayed for some number of years until the dollar is once more challenged. Two, the rescue fails and the failed rescue attempted becomes public knowledge. Panic sets in, further rescue attempts are made but have little effect, and end game begins...
All IMHO |

Agreed... Hold it until you retire or until you absolutely need it and if you never need it pass it on to your kids along with the knowledge to appreciate the difference between real and fake money. |

When you talk about the dollar going to zero so far in this country it has been a long drawn out effect. This downward started in 1913/1933 and has been going on ever since.
So far this march to zero the FED has let people build bigger houses, bigger cars and get fat and lazy. For the past sixty years you rarely hear of people in this country starving to death or many other poverty related items.
I really hope the FED can keep up the prosperity until after I and my children are long gone.
In reality I think a small depression and famine every generation, like most of history, leads to a small revolution about every generation and makes people respect having food and freedom.
I think we are in a different boat. The last depression and famine was the great one in 1930’s. This one was so big because the one before had been forty years before. We have not had a successful regime change in this country since George Washington left and the two parties took over and have traded back and forth for the past two hundred years.
I expect the next depression and famine to be bigger than anything ever seen before. I expect revolutions around the world. The problem is the people who control the world know these revolutions will happen and they are ready with dictators to take over from the democracies.
When will this happen. I hope long after I am gone. Selfish I know, but I hope to live a few more years and don’t think these things being put off that far.

My hopes, and hear me out, is that silver goes down to $4.00/ounce so that people sell off and I can gobble up as much as possible before it rises again. |

Yeah, $4.00 spot would rock, but who'll be selling? And how much over spot will they want?
It'll take a freakin' miracle for spot to get that low, and a return of the free-credit-for-all-orgy, for an extended period, in order to see anything close to $4 silver.
I like dreaming too, but don't hold your breath on that one... |
