ebay copper bar auction link: You must be logged in to see this link.
Every few days or so I do ebay searches with the terms, 'copper bullion, 'copper investment,' copper pennies,' etc., not looking to buy stuff, just seeing what people are selling and buying.
I see the bars shown in the above ebay auction link alot, and I have to admit I am mathmatically challenged.
Anyway, can someone tell me what the copper bar shown in the link actually costs per pound? It is the grams thing screwing up my calculations. (well, actually it is my brain screwing up the calculations!)
Like I said, I am not looking to buy it, I just would like to know how much per pound one would have to pay to buy copper this way.
Thanks!

Maybe this will help.
Multiply grams by .0352739571 to get ounces avoir. Multiply pounds avoir by 453.5924277 to get grams

put bluntly, that auction was a total ripoff. A little over 1/2lb for $18 +%5.35 s/h??? Let's see: $23.35 for $1.84 worth of copper. I'm in the wrong business! |

First time poster here, Hello, Found the site and have been lurking for a few days. Thought I'd jump in on this one.
Yep, a ripoff for the uneducated buyer. Any machine shop can cut, debur, then dress up raw copper simple enough with a deluxe finish. The shop I used to work at would more than likely do a 1000 piece lot for less than a buck each for the work. Maybe much less for 10,000. Capitalism at the most basic level. The auction clearly spells out what you get though there is a hype spin put to it. Does Cu really have to be assayed to go on ebay? I wouldn't worry about it unless it wasn't Cu. I admire the guts it took go forth with that marketing model. You never know, that little batch of bars he made up just might have a collector value in a hundred years or so. |

Welcome. I'm glad you decided to join us with an informative post.
I too admire the guts of the guy who came up with this idea. We could go on ebay with a picture of a cloth bag with at least 10 pounds of copper inside! When they get it they then find out it is in the form of pre-82 pennies.

Google is your friend. Search "250 grams to pounds" and it figures the math out for you. |
