I needed some quarters for laundry. I also wanted to fill some holes in my States Quarters folder, and I was looking for a little variety. So I bought a Brinks box.
7 rolls were missing quarters and had lower denomination coins in their place, 2 rolls had 2 quarters missing. That's $2.75, not cool. 
There were 3 pennies, 3 nickels and 5 dimes in them. 68 cents.
I didn't open those rolls and plan on returning them Monday. I can't believe Brinks is so sloppy.
I did find 1 Ag.  A '64.

Now your going to have a heck of time trying to prove that. Short rolls are becoming a real popular item. At a restaurant I wanted to get rid of some rolls and they said only if I opened them and stacked them in equal piles. At several banks I go to they no longer will take rolled coins without a certain method. The method is they send them out to a main office for opening and counting. The results will be entered into your account when they finish and that could take weeks. Bank of America just informed they will no longer take any amount of coins that require counting. Such as rolls or bags of coins. Same thing though. If you have them, they'll take them and send them to a main office for counting.
This is due to so many playing the short rolls routine. Sounds cheap but if you do it all day long it adds up. |

| No they came from 4 boxes of skunks. Speaking of which, I just came back in from outside, we had a real one here. If I had seen the bugger I would have shot it. No such luck. Maybe I'll get him in the trap. |

The skunk is eating my bees. They go up and scratch the outside of the hive intil the bees come out and they eat them. It weakens the hive and makes them real mean. I have a hive that was bothered by skunks last year, and a I couldn't go near it. Got 15 stings one time right through my bee suit. |

Bees, that is awesome. Skunks attack the hives just to get the bees and not the honey? Damn. Crazy skunks. I'd shoot them as well if they were assaulting my hives, if I had any, as long as it is legal to shoot them. I have to admit, my local skunk hunting law knowledge is rusty....

| Knibloe ...I have honey bees also ...yep them skunks do like bees to eat ! What I do is to take a raw egg, remove the top 1/4 of the shell, crush three regular asprins and mix the asprin into the egg, now the the egg out by your hive that the skunk is bothering make a small indentation in the ground so as to look like a nest . The skunk will find the eggs and eat it and die in its hole . The asprin thins its blood and it hemorages internally...Rick |

Ouch. Never knew skunks ate bees, let alone that aspirin is deadly to them. Learn a thing, or in this instance two, everyday. Really, you guys wanna sell any? I love honey.

| I think the aspirin thing might work. When I was a kid, we took our cat in to get fixed and she bleed to death. Turns out the maintenance guys in our plant put out warfrin (spelling?) which is a blood thiner to deal with mice. The mice would slow down from internal bleeding and eventually die, making for easy hunting for our cat. |

Back to the original post, I look at it as a hazard of the business, so to speak. I think after you walk away from the teller window its yours and not many banks would credit you, even if they did believe you.
Although I have gotten quarters, nickels and even pennies in half-dollar rolls, I've also gotten susan B's, canadian $2 coins and of course silver halves. It seems to always balance out in my favor in the end. |

Normally I couldn't care less about a coin or two every now and then, because it does all balance out in the end. But 11 in one box, of quarters no less, I don't think so.

Glad to hear they were receptive. Out of curiosity, do you often search quarters? Have you ever had any big finds? I find quarters to be the most difficult denomination to find silver in. |

| My last 6 boxes of halves came up short. Until now I don't think that I had seen short boxes. I figure that it is part of the game. I did mention it to the teller. She told me that the bank would credit me. I declined. That seems like the quickest way to lose my source bank. If I become a pain in the backside, they will say Adios. |

Yesterday the little bank where I dump zinc pennies informed me they won't take rolls anymore (now they tell me I have to drive to another branch another 10 miles away from them and 16 miles from home and I only turned in 3 stray rolls). They have a coin counter and it used to be free for account holders and 8% for non-account holders but now it's 2% of what you turn in for account holders (which I am) or 8% for non-account holders...which is equal to what the CoinStar machine in the grocery store across the parking lot charges.
I checked their rating on Bankrate.com and some of the other online sources and they are the bank closest to me with the lowest rating for stability (they're a 3). I figure this new attitude over not taking rolled coins and the charge to use the coin sorter is an early sign of them taking, ahem, 'penny pinching' measures even with their customers to stay competitive. That and the economy may be getting so bad that they too are being stiffed with short rolls? |
