Most people I think just sell them whole. Around here I think the going price is about $15, but like anything if you are will to take it apart, sort it, and get your piles big enough, you will get more money.

I tore apart a dryer once and found about $10 in change inside. Then I just sorted the scrap iron, insulated wires, and threw the rest in a pile.

Don't remember what I got for that misc. pile.
