Does anybody here scrap Motor Vehicles and if so how much "sorting" do you do?
I am looking at a price list and I am intriqued:
Whole Prepared Cars are only $73.50 a ton, but if you start taking stuff off and selling it seperately, you can get much, much more.
"Unflattened car bodies, with tires, radiator and battery removed, gas tanks acceptable but must be removed and punctured, (no propane tanks allowed). Engine and transmission may or may not be included."
Examples:
Green Car Bodies $176.40 Unclean Motors $196 Clean Motors $392 Rims $294 Catalytic Converters ???
So the question is how far do you go and how far should you go in preparing a car for scrapping.

Starter and alternator, core items. Rack and pinion-core item. Engine core item or aluminum block/head. Transmission-core item. Catalytic converter-Pt, Pl, Rh. Wiring harness-up to 30lbs copper wire. Rims- short steel. Oxygen sensors- Au. Airbag sensors- Au. High end spark plugs- Pt. Some high end headlights- Rh.
How far ya wanna go? We get 160-210 a ton around here whole. Exponentially more profit with a shop to strip em first. Alot of times the Cat Conv will bring as much as the whole car, unstripped by the ton. |

$160 - $210 per ton? I guess that I better call around. This website is saying only $73.50 a ton. I wonder why they are so far off or maybe the $73.50 a ton is for bodies with most of the good stuff removed? Anybody know a different website that is quoting buy prices for whole cars?
