Hi there-
I have a question for all the penny masters out there-
I have a couple penny collection books- (you know, the ones where each date is listed, and you snap them in) ...and some loose wheats.
My question is this- is it worth it to snap wheats in the folders to fill them up the best I can and try to offload the folders to a coin dealer? I know all the major collectible dates, and the wheats I have are mostly common 30's-50's wheats. I have some from earlier than 1930, but they are all in kinda beat up shape. Would it be worth it to put them in the folders or just put them in one big loose pile?
Thanks, wags

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

Collecting in coin folders is for personal enjoyment, not for selling. With coins, a collection is often worth less then the sum of its parts because the real joy is in building your own collection. Also buying a collection in a folder forces the buyer to acquire various coins they may already own examples of, so they tend to discount for that fact.
My guess is you are better to sell the common wheats off in bulk and the rare dates individually. Sell the empty coin folders on ebay or to a dealer maybe. I'd also suggest offering the folders and coins seperately in the buy and sell section of this site, and/or on other coin collecting forums you might be a member of. |
