              | In case anyone is interested in this.
This is good for those lightly tarnished eagles and coins you don't want to put wear on.

Silver tarnish is actually Silver Sulfide (Ag2S). Sulfur atoms combine with the silver and produce the brown black tarnish. In order to remove the sulfur without removing silver along with it, you have to use something that has a greater affinity for sulfur atoms than silver has, and you need a catalyst. Fortunately, this is simple.

Use a small bowl that you won't eat from again, glass or ceramic preferably. Line it with aluminum foil, matte side up. Try to get a flat spot so that when the coin goes in it lays flat. Boil water and mix 1 cup of water to 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Pour this into the boel and then drop the coin in. Let soak for about 20 minutes, but don't let the water get cold or you will get baking soda residue stuck to the coin. If necessary, change the aluminum foil and repeat for the reverse. The tarnish generally only comes off where there is phyical contact between the coin and the aluinum foil. It may take several several tries to remove a lot of tarnish, and severe tarnish may not be completely removed. The upside is, it doesn't remove any silver from the coin.

I wouldn't try this on UNCs anyway.

Lest anyone think I know something, I'll admit up front I found his on the internet about a year ago.

                      | Sweet and thanks - I was wondering the exact thing for dealing with some of my 90% and generic silver coins. I like shiny stuff :) |

                      | e-z-est is what I found in my coin dealers shop this past Thursday while visiting. I was told it was a good cleaner and that if I used it I should disclose it to a buyer so as not to misrepresent the coin. |

that is a very good point if you are going to move it you should tell them you "Dipped" the coin.
