I found 2 good things today, a steel wheat penny and a 1989 D Penny that looks like the steel penny. What is this worth, Is it missing the copper coating? Is there some way to take the copper off of pennies? I do not have a camera to take a photo, but i was wondering what it was worth.

Sounds like a missing copper layer. Don't know what it's worth. search for that on ebay and see.
Might need to be certified for top $

Also could be a science project, science students like to dissolve the copper layer and leave the zinc in some kind of acid or something.

I found one of those a few months ago. I did a Google search for "unplated lincoln zinc cent" and found that one is valued from $0 (if fake) to $100 (seemed kind of high to me).

If you look at the links, you could pick up a few hints on how to determine if the copper was removed purposely. The impression I got is that there is no definitive way to tell for sure. The weight of the coin as discussed on another forum seems to be the best way to tell (see link below):
