Woo Hoo, got some stuff in the mail and off craigslist the other day. Now I'm up to 2.5 grams instead of .5 grams!!! Small stuff, but at least it's growing!

All right!
Have you seen those little JM 2.5 gram "bars"? Get one of those and you can double your hoard. |

All of my gold is 1/10 ounce or less (most are less). I like the liquidity of small coins and the small 1 gram bars. Plus, I typically can't afford anything larger than 1/10 ounce at a time |

| I haven't seen a 2.5 or 1 gram bar, where are these available. Sounds like right up my alley as I'm cheap and poor! |

I've seen them at both my local coin dealer, and at coin shows. |

Mine all came from eBay. I'm not a big fan of the stuff from Turkey, but Sunshine Mint, Engelhard, Credit Suisse, Pamp Suisse, and others all make them. I believe APMEX, Kitco, etc. sell them as well but they're usually cheaper on eBay. |

Sometimes my dealer has some. I have never bought any. Can I ask what you paid?

eBay has lots and lots of the small bars... I am a bit leery of buying the ones that are shipped from Turkey, but they seem to sell a lot. Normally the mark up over spot is pretty high--especially for the PAMP. But, every now and then you can get a great deal. Never found any on craigslist though, but I'd bet that would be the best deal of all. |

| I paid $33 - $36 for my one gram bars, but that was when gold was $1000/ounce. |

I like the bigger coins.. Not nearly the premium over spot that you have to pay for the others. I just added a $20 Gold piece to the hoard this weekend. Had to pay a little over spot.. but it was really shiny! |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

| The bars from instabul are great! I have bought many when gold was 800/ounce but sold when it reached 1000/ounce. |

Deal
In May 2007 I paid $37 for 2 of the 1 gram Credit Suisse "bars" in their intact original plastic sleeves. In the same month, I paid $51 for a 2.5 gram Credit Suisse bar. I bought all three along with some other things. I actually forgot about having the 1 gram ones, had to go look it up. |

Did you get them from the guy selling them from Turkey? Or a reseller here? Any problems if they came from Turkey? Long delivery time, etc? Thanks. |

| Yeah, I've been a bit leery of buying anything out of country. Well, other than Canada. There's a guy in UK that has some GREAT Hammered coins, but I haven't tried that yet. |

Hi,
I would stay away from small gram bars of gold.
The buy-sell spread has got to be HUGE - like $100/ounce huge.
Heck, British Sovereigns at ajpm have a $35/ounce spread, or 3.75% - almost as small as the spread on one ounce Eagles.
That's pry the best deal on 'fractional' gold you'll find - British Sovereigns. I don't know about fractional Kruggerands, tho.

Sometimes it is even more than that--I am always surprised at what people are willing to buy them for on ebay....but, I was also surprised when I was able to pick up a gram at close to or under spot. Good for me--bad for the seller--I think he was disappointed at what it finally sold for--but, if I hadn't bid it would have gone for even less.
You just need to figure out what you are willing to pay, make a bid and don't get caught up in a bidding war. Patience. The only reason to stay away from the smaller bars is if the premium is too high...given an equal premium (or no premium) I'll go for the smaller bar every time. |

| Gold is gold. As long as I get it for a decent price I'm cool. I might buy a few at higher prices to have some if I really like them, but for hoarding purposes I stick with what I can get closer to spot. |

| I bought 200 Mexican wedding tokens on Ebay for $1.40 each. These things were made from 8K to 14K, and some were a lower karat but plated with 22K. There are about a dozen types, each with several variations. So it's sort of a grab bag of gold, no accurate idea how much is actually in them. But they are selling at ridiculous prices, $5 to $16, just depending on who bids. No sense. I'll see what happens. |
