I managed to knock a 1 gallon bucket off of a 3' high shelf the other day...luckily it only had about 3" of pennies in the bottom. Still, it's not something I hope to repeat anytime soon. |

I spilled $30 worth of zincs under my car seat on the way to the dump bank last week. Some jerk cut me off and I had to slam on my brakes... |

That's why you need to seal your zinc dumps in Tyvek bags as well (as long as you don't spill them like I did). I started off dumping loose zincs in penny boxes, but changed my mind because I didn't want my dump bank to wonder why I had all the penny boxes to begin with. I've had an employee at one bank so far ask me if I was hoarding pennies for the copper--and I only got 2 bricks from that branch on that day. I figure that putting the zinc dumps in Tyvek bags won't let on that I'm buying dozens of boxes and recycling the zinc. The less of a Brinks trail I leave, the better.
FYI, here are the Tyvek bags (well, I guess technically they're envelopes) that I ordered, but they easily hold $50 worth of pennies:

Why didnt you get the Fedex ones? Unlike the USPS, Fedex cant put you in jail for misuse
Or if you "reuse" the ones from USPS |

I hear those cloth coin bags work well for this. That is what they used in the old days.. and they still work quite well today. Reusable over and over and over again. Very Green. |

i had something similar happen... i didn't realize that one of my boxes had slid across the seat during a turn, so when i opened the passenger door to unload the boxes, one fell on the ground and burst open.
Naturally, there was a scattering of broken glass all over the ground there as well
There was one big surprise, though- it didn't start raining until AFTER i finished picking up all the pennies! |
Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead? |

That's what I use - I did have a mishap with a shopping cart load while dumping at a Walmart bank last week. One of the bags fell over and sprayed about $20 worth all over the floor. They were in a 30' radius. I found out you can't sweep them up on a florr like that - gotta pickem up one or two at a time.... |

If you use a rubber band on the top there is much less chance of spillage either during transport or when you get them to the bank. |

There was a rubber band around it - I had 6 bags with 5k pennies each. One of the bags on top of it fell & pushed the band off and caused it to spill. They had a power cord on the floor that I had to hop. I was lucky that's all that spilled! I have had as many as 8 bags of pennies, 2 bags of nickels and a bag of dimes in one shopping cart all at once - very unstable. |

You just need to invest in a proper cart Tim. I put 12 bags on mine all the time.. never a problem. I also have proper bag seals with the metal teeth for sealing cloth bags.. I just don't crimp the lead seal if I want to reopen it.. but most folks don't have those though. |

I use those cheap little zip ties for sealing my bags. They're good. |
