Poll Question:
After responding to the Wachovia topic, I thought how many accounts do we use primarily for pennies? How many dump and supply banks/credit unions do you have?
For right now I have 4 and a half. The half is my main savings account, but I can get pennies from there too. Two of them I am still "breaking in" (well, a couple branches of these two banks) and the other two are regular supplers/ dumpers. I think doing a little action over many banks/branches is better than a lot for one branch.

Choices:

one
two
three
four
more

I only have accounts at three banks, but I have coin arrangements with several branches of each. I also have a few more banks where I frequently stop and pick up 10 or 20 rolls of pennies or Pres. dollars.

I have accounts at 3 different banks. I also have someone else order pennies at branches about 45 minutes away from me at 3 different banks and then he delivers them to me.

Only 1, but because I am 14 i do not have that much money to spread around in different accounts at different banks. My dad has an account at this bank in a grocery store and they do not like me at all. One time my dad brought in $500 in dimes and then 2 days later we brought in $90 something in pennies and the teller who was really really upset me to the point of seeing yellowed off said how would you like your money back? I answer in pennies please, or at least $50 in pennies. He opens his drawer and starts pulling out tens and he said we don't have pennies, so i said "what kind of a bank are you" and all of the 4 tellers looked at me with hate in their eyes. Sorry for rambling on but i guess i can't count that as a branch. My mom has an account at i think 2 other banks that i do not have accounts at and every once in a while i will be walking around with my back pack and walk into a bank that i have never seen and asked/demand for a box of pennies. I tell all unfamiliar banks that my mom has her morgage with them and they normally give me a box. As for accounts i only have 1 but as for the amount of banks i can get pennies at is over 4. (I guess i rambled on again.)

I think it is good for young people to have bank accounts. I had a checking and a couple of savings accounts at a couple different banks at 14. Those were the good old days.

Copperpennies - I'm finding that showing empathy and being super polite is helping get coin. That is why some members even give chocolates to the tellers. Hauling all that coin is not fun for the tellers - so I never demand - just smile big and say "can you check your vault too for extra coin?".

Here is another idea for you and others like nckt on here.

Since you are a minor you can often get "fee free" accounts at some banks and credit unions. Everyone understands that kids don't have much cash, but if they can win your loyalty today, they hope you stick around for many years.

Today, I saw one of my credit unions offering $25 FREE CASH plus NO FEES ever to help start a kid account. So I would suggest when you walk into a bank/credit union you might sometimes ask about what deal they have for a student or minor account. Ask lots of questions, read all the info you can get from them, and carefully compare the different bank accounts. Then take the best two deals - it will be excellant training for the future and very enlightening.

Other benefit might include:

1. You can get pennies/do business for sure where you have an account.

2. Free Cash! and other benefits like financial news letters etc.

3. When you are old enough, it looks really good to the credit person when you want a car loan, home loan, or whatever when they see you a long history with the bank. Also good for your future credit rating.

4. If you join a credit union be sure and go to the Annual General Meetings. It will enhance your financial IQ. Plus every credit union AGM I've attended had a special draw or two for the junior members in attendance (usually a term deposit). Since so few kids attend (like 7 at a 100,000 member CU AGM last year), there is a great chance of winning! You already like free cash right?

Let us know how you make out ok.

I think I have accounts at 9 banks.. and use multiple branches of each. I even have a couple of those grocery store bank accounts. I don't dump there or get preorders but they do come up with a decent amount of CWR for me sometimes. They are very happy when I take it. They hardly have any vault space.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Same here, even thought there are coinstars inside all the grocery store. I once got over $200 at a grocery store in a very wealthy neighborhood. They were so happy to get rid of them!
Another grocery store could only give me $10 worth, and the third grocery i hit up said pennies, here??? you need to go to your local branch and have them order pennies for you.

Self made wealthy people (wealth through saving/investing, not the high salary, higher spending through debt kind) don't throw money away, even pennies. And many will not give up 7% fees to coinstar when they can just deposit the coin in the bank 20 feet away.

It is the large masses between the truely sustainably wealthy, and the truly poor that must make every penny count, that don't care about the penny.

So maybe if you know a bank in a really well off area, or a bank in a very poor area, that is where to really find CWR.

I only have two accounts, but I've been thinking about opening another as a penny, paypal account.

Are you throwing that out?
