I've never had to deal with refrigerators before, and I found a mini-fridge the other day. It's one of those half-sizers (not the real tiny ones). Is there anything I need to know?
My friend accidentally released some gas (freon?) from inside a black container on the outside of the fridge. We did NOT breathe it in! As soon as we heard it, we booked it out of there.
Anyway, is there any copper inside the fridge, or anything else I should look for? I'm looking to add to the 20 lbs. I found inside a pool heater. Big metal rods. Yes.

Yes, you released the refrigerant, ::::tisk tisk::::. I have never scrapped one, but I'm sure there is some kind of coil. It's probably aluminum/copper, or just aluminum. It might be painted black. There is compressor, black and heavy probably. Not sure really about the real scrap value of the rest. Definitely some money, however little, in the coil. Hope I helped.

| I'm not sure how much freon is in a frig, but when I was working at a dairy equip dealership, it was worth $20 per pound. (If I remember correctly from 15 years ago). |

Now you will pay for someone to take it. Depending on what type, the price to buy some is crazy.

I'm in the HVAC/R industry. You pay to get rid of it. We turn in 150lb tanks of refrigerant all the time. It costs money to get rid of it.

I had a heck of a time getting rid of a large old freezer here in NY state. No scrap yard would buy it without a government sticker saying the freon was drained. Couldn't put it at the curb on junk day either without risk of getting a citation. It cost plenty to have this done so I called the Salvation Army and said I had a huge old freezer that worked fine and if they did pick-ups. They said YES! Sent a truck out and picked it up for free! They said the food pantry places need all the freezers they can get. This thing was so old and so big, I bet it weighed 500 pounds but it worked like a charm and ate so much electricity that it made the meter spin like crazy.
