I am going to Canada this weekend and I am thinking about looking through some dimes and quaters to see if i can find any silver. Anyone know the percentages of silver in dimes and quarters up there? I have heard it is higher than here in the US? Any advice would be appriciated. thanks,

I dont know the exact numbers off the top of my head, but this link should help you:

Just use the silver content value along with the spot price to figure out the silver content. |

I live in Canada and I believe that Canadian Silver Dimes and Quarters are really rare in the wild. I don't search rolls but do search my change - found maybe two silver Quarters in 10+ years?
You will have far more luck and fun with CDN .99 Ni coins (1955-1981) They are in every roll! and are now worth more then double face in metal content. Plus you can't sort for Pure Ni in the USA because there have never been pure Ni US coins. I would use your trip to Canada to diversify into the only real pure metal coin in circulation in North America. Oh and enjoy Canada, don't spend all your time sorting coins! |

I was just in Northern Ontario over this weekend and can say that nothing silver crossed my path. Silver, you'll probably find that, like me, vehicles from the US are pretty scarce even in the Canadian border cities. No wonder since the Loonie now commands a higher value than the US buck.
In contrast, though, there were more Ontario cars parked in the lots of the malls and stores in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, than locals. Things certainly have done a complete reversal since the days of US $1 = CDN $1.50. Now the rate is US $1 = CDN $0.98. |
Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply. |

| I talked to a coin handler yesterday. He deals with coin as a business, looking for silver as a side activity. He sorted CDN $25,000 face of Quarters in a week and pulled out less less than $ 2.50 of silver. A pointless project if you are just looking for Silver. |

You are right about that. I've kept my eye out for silver dimes and quarters in circulation for 3 years now, and have never found one. You're better off hunting for nickel and copper. |

I did find 3 silver dimes in my pocket change in 2007. I was dry for 10 years so it was a nice suprise. I am still skunked in 2008 for silver coins.
.999 Ni is the way to go IMHO.
