I have a collection of British pennies, half pennies and farthings.
I have around 75 extra pennies and about the same for the farthings and halfs added together.
Anyone know there copper weight? I have Krause's world coin book and it says they are just bronze.
Also anyone know how to roll them, 25 per roll?
Many thanks

I weighed some of the British pennies I have and came up with the following weights- Large British Penny 9.2 grams - 9.38 grams each
1/2 Penny 5.61 grams - 5.67 grams each
(I don't have any farthings to weigh)
Please note: the gram scale I have is off .001 grams and wear and tear on the coins effect their weight.
At least this should give you an idea of what some British copper coins weigh. |

Remember that Bronze as well as Brass is a combination of Copper, Tin and Zinc. At least with Brass the composition is fairly stable, but not exact. Supposed to be 1% Tin and 30% Zinc with Copper making up the major portion. However, Bronze is Copper, Tin and a massive variety of other subtances in various proportions. Many of these are Aluminum, Manganese, Silicon, Phosporus, etc. |
