Does anyone here do any good with half dollars?? I have been trying some lately, found a couple 40%. Is it worth the time or not? Have you done better with CWR or wrapped from brinks etc? And how do you dispose of them? My regular bank is more than happy to get me boxes, but they say they have no way to get rid of them. Its a small community and one box would last them a decade, I would hate to stick them with a 100 years worth of halves!

| I find no silver in Brinks rolls, only CWR and even that is fairly rare. I take the majority of mine back to banks and spend a few rolls at stores, it's always fun to see people wondering what they are. |

| Only tried once here and out of two boxes (2000 total coins, $1000 face) I found only 3 40% halves. Disposing was a bit of an issue with that many coins due to the weight and bulk, so I ended up dropping off at 3 different locations. It was hardly worth the effort and I havent done it since. I have been thinking about getting back into it though. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

There are a few hard core half searchers on the board. There is a specific thread for half dollars.. great reading! You must be logged in to see this link.
Some of us even get lucky sometimes. Right before Christmas the Silver Santa visited me and out of 6 rolls I got 88 90%ers and 11 40%ers! Of course this sort of thing happens less often than finding an Indian in my pennies. But it just goes to show you can sometimes hit the jackpot with halves. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

About 4 years ago I was in Lake Tahoe for a convention. I am Canadian so I did not have a good collection of halves. I bought a few rolls in the casino and then ran up stairs to my room to sort.
I got about 3 40% which made me happy plus I was able to flush out halves collection from the 1970 to 90's.
Anyone try casinos for halves?

All casinos around here print out tickets.

Too bad they do that now. So you don't play with coins just a credit slip with a UPC bar?
If that is so that sucks!
Give me the coins!

If you play machines, you insert cash. When you cash out, it prints out a ticket with your total. You then go to the cashier, or one of several machines kinda like an ATM. Insert slip, it spits out cash and any change. Damn technology.... Luckily for me I play roulette. I would rather have a pocket full of chips than a slip of paper....
