| Look at the upper left hand corner of your screen when you are in this forum. That is a wheat penny. Those are wheat ears on the reverse. That particular penny looks to be a 1909-S VBD, which is the most valuable numismatic coin among the wheat pennies. The 1909-S VBD shown on your screen looks to be in mint state condition; so it is worth well over $1,000.00 and probably closer to $1,500.00. |
"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

Look up on the upper left hand side of your screen. See where it says One Cent United Sates of America on the pictured penny? Those are wheat shafts around the wording. That's why they are called a wheat cent. Minted from 1909 to 1958.
You beat me to it Tex.
I'll move this out of the bullion forum. |

Beat me to the explanation also. I was going to say pennies use to make bread. Glad to see so many using the term pennies. There are so many dedicated numismatist that insist we have cents, not pennies. |
