Uh-oh HCBTT don't you have the most?

Nope, not me.. I sell! There are several folks that have more than me. And I'm gonna put off that dying thing for at least another week or 2.. I am still behind on sorting.

You sell wherever you can get the most!

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I don't really think this WTSHF is ever going to happen. I do believe that pennies will not always be around. This means they could be melted for their metal. In 10 years, maybe. Is the US going to be in chaos in 10 years, that's really a stretch.

This poll doesn't have enough options. i'd say never over 10 years.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

I'm not convinced there will be a SHTF scenario. Can't we count on Bono to ask China to forgive our debt?

I'm with you on this one. There has always been and will always be someone preaching doom and gloom and end times scenarios. Naturally, there is a beginning and end of everything. Nothing lasts forever. No one really knows when/if it will happen in 10, 20 or even 50 + years. With that in mind, it's a good idea to be prepared in the event of tumultuous times and chaos.

Its the uncertainty that makes everyone a little uneasy. But to say the USA is going to hit incredibly tough times, where it's a good idea to start stock piling rations and base metals and guns and ammo, etc., is just a little to right winged media gone crazy. Watch enough daytime fox and it all seems to make sense. No offense to anyone that enjoys realistic fiction based newscasting.

Well, I don't share your opinion of FoxNews. They present both sides of an issue...liberal and conservative. CNN has announced they will no longer welcome conservative radio talk show hosts to appear as guests. CNN and MSNBC are both solidly in the tank for Obama. At least Fox presents some valid criticism of King Zero. I'm a conservative, a right winger if you will, and I'm not convinced of the doom and gloom SHTF scenario that we read and hear discussed as if it is a foregone conclusion. There is no question though, if the USA stays on the current path with Obama steering the country into deeper and deeper debt, we are in for some serious pain. I'm hopeful the dangerous threat of Obama's policies will be drastically limited if he loses significant support in the Congress. If not, the crap hitting the fan scenario will be more of a reality than fiction. The guy is a pathological liar, he's dangerous and needs to go before he can turn this country into a third world banana republic.

The stage is set for the SHTF any time now.

I tend to agree that the melt ban is to our advantage. Whenever the ban is lifted, there will be a mass withdrawl of pre 1982 cents. Therefore, right now is the opportunity of a lifetime.

I'm hoarding copper as a long term investment, and probably will not liquidate for 10-15 years. If you are looking to make fast money, you might want to try something else.

I think the biggest catalyst will be when the penny and nickel get made out of steel...I think starting 1/1/11.

No chance of retiring these denominations...the government's containment strategy is to keep status quo as long as possible. I predict here and now that the shield cent will be made of zinc for one year, and then switch to copper-plated steel. That way the change of design won't be a clue for the public to reject the 2010 pennies when received in change. Think of the JFK Half and its transition to clad.

Then yes Copperhead you're right on...they'll flood the nation with steel, lift the melting ban and perhaps surreptitiously cull copper and zinc from circulation.

Frankly I'm surprised Ron Paul hasn't been lynched yet and had it "deemed a suicide". He's trying to repeal legal tender laws. I think his days are numbered if he's ever taken seriously by his peers.

We still have bucketloads of cull silver coins still circulating in the collector/investment markets, what makes people think a melt ban repeal will erase a significant portion of the copper supply?

Those silver coins can't be bought for face value.

Were silver coins not sucked out of circulation very soon after compositions were changed?
