I have 8 boxes of U.S. nickels on the shelf. Is it worth the effort to treasure hunt/sort or should I just leave them boxed.

(is there any "treasure" to find in a box of nickels)

Silver..poor mans gold
Copper..peasant silver

I have a ton of them but I don't sort. Someday when I have the time I just may do so. Just looking through a couple of boxes I have found a Buffalo nickel, 100% Canadian nickels, and a silver war nickel. So yes, I would say there are treasures to be found in U.S. nickels if you are willing to hand sort.

You may already be aware of this, but if you are looking for pre 1982 Canadian nickels amongst your American cupro-nickels, my tip would be to just run over a strong magnet, and if you feel anything, then you know there is pure nickel in that roll.

I had the flu big time about 6 weeks ago. Then and only then I decided to crack open my stored stash of nickel boxes. The results were just about as lousy as I felt. Not a single War Nick and only a few non-culls from the 1940s. I'm back to storing them on the shelf again (and hoping that I don't get sick...and desperate).

Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply.
