I found 3 of my marked pennies with a green T on obverse in a sealed Brinks box.
On 3/11/08 I dumped 4 lb of zinc pennies (~600) at my credit union.
I opened a sealed Brink box dated 3/17/08 from my supply credit union and found 3 of my marked pennies in the box. I just got around to opening boxes I picked up on 3/17.
I do know that my dump credit union sends it's bagged coins to Brinks. I did not expect to even see any of these pennies, much less see them this quickly. I don't know where Brinks actually counts, rolls, and reboxes the coins. It has to be somewhere locally in the Indianapolis area where I live.
The percentages in the box were above 30% copper. Obviously not just my zinc returns.

Did you only ever make 3 green T's?

I made approximately 600 pennies with green T's on the obverse (front). |

It's kind of hard to believe they could end up rolled and boxed in a box dated the same day you dumped them. That's quick processing. |

Correction. I dumped them on 3/11/08, and they were found in a 3/17/08 box. |

Seems reasonable. If you dumped a lot of pennies, then the bank would have sent them back. Banks have limits on the amount of coin that they can keep on site. If they get sent back, then you are more likely to get them when they get mixed back up and you order boxes.
If you don't want your own coin back, then you are better off dumping small rolled amounts at numerous banks. That way they are less likely to send those coins back. If you bring in bags, then they are likely to send those back as well.
This is based on discussions with my mother who is a retired teller.
You only got 0.5% of you own coins back. I would consider that pretty good. The chance of getting them back without them going through other people is low now. I am sure all the 3/16-18 boxes will be process and used pretty quickly.
Also, think about this. You have marked those 600 pennies, so no one else is going to have any reason to keep them. They are zinc so copper people are not going to want them. They are marked, so collectors are not going to want them either. They are now only useful for business transactions. I would say that increases the chance (pretty small increase in the big picture if you only marked 600, but if you mark every dumped zinc then that changes things) of you getting them back in the future as they are less likely to be removed from the penny population.

`Everybody is ignorant. Only on different subjects.' Will Rogers
"This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the "hidden" confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard." Alan Greenspan, 1966. |
