Yeah, and I read somewhere it was illegal to take Canadian coins outside of the country, so no road trips to Canada for me.
Border Officer: "Sir your trunk seems to be weighed down, we're going to have to check it."
Me: "Uh...I think my shocks are just worn."
Border Officer: "Holy cow, 50 boxes of canadian nickels, going to have to confiscate them."
Me: "Huh, why? I'm a US citizen entering the US you can't enforce Canadian laws on me only US laws, I don't think there is a US law against taking coins out of Canada, just the Canadian's can't"
Border "My brain hurts, stop trying to use logic on me. Ok wise guy, I just won't let you back into the US."
Me: "Doh!" |

If it is against Canadian law to take coins out of Canada, then how come we get Canadian coins mixed in with our change in the US?
Besides, with an 800 mile long unguarded border, I doubt Canada would have much luck keeping “nickel runners” from sneaking their coins into the US.
Illegal immigrants travel north, Canadian nickel coins travel south, that’s NAFTA for you. |
