Are they worth it (as a collector coin) for $800 with a first year minting of 300,000? I was thinking of buying 2.

What I read on other sites is that many are disapointed in them. Scratched and dented coins. 24K is very soft and hard to work with. But that's all I know about them. Nice looking coin though.

I'm wondering how these people came to this conclusion about scrathces and dents. The US Mint says they are available as of 8-14-06.

my new buffalo gold is all scratched and dented!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i just picked up my new $50 gold buffalo from the post office today. i didn't take it out of the mylar package yet but i can already tell this ain't no MS70. it has a nick on the side of the rim that actually made a "burr". it looks like it got banged by something sharp. also the edge of the rim on the other side has 3 scratches and a flat spot. the mylar is'nt damaged at all so i know this happened at the mint.

i guess it's not too big a deal since i was planning on getting my fingerprints on it anyway. anyone else get a buffalo that looks like S T?

If I had $800 to spare, I'd put it in nickle or silver. Gold is overvalued (relaitive to both of them) plus $800 is way over spot.

Gold is overvalued right now? relative? I would like GOld to be less so I could buy more but do others think it wiser to invest in Silver as opposed to Gold right now?

I was siked to purchase ten of the new gold nickels even have the phone number to buy them 1-800-360-8151. I saw a full page ad in the newspaper and thought the ad was calling me especially since I've been blogging with you folks and procrastinating a bit........Yes ?? No???

Hoard Gold online and cashout actual gold or physical cash based on it's changing value with the click of a button.

I'm more interested in the collector value potential of these coins as a first year issue than bullion value. That's what I was asking about. Look at what first year issue Silver Eagles are going for these days.......way over spot.

Collector value is much harder to gauge. Gold is definately overvalued re: silver right now. The ratio of gold to silver available for owning is about 1:5, while the price ratio is much higher. Also, the silver market, being in a large part industrial, is much more manipulated by short hedgers.
