I do. I don't know if I really need them, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. |

Usually I have so much other background noise that the clink of the Ryedale is not all that loud.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

I wear my NASCAR headset that I wear when I go to NASCAR races. Not to protect my hearing but so I can hear the television or radio above the sound of the Ryedale or my wrapping machine. You should see it, it is quite a sight. Just one more reason for my wife to think I'm nuts. |

I wear earplugs when I sort, because I am usually really close to the sorted coins, cherrypicking wheats and oddities as they appear. I recommend using them, I don't think the noise is that horrible, but usually I'm sorting for 10 min or more and it gets annoying. I feel I can concentrate on the coins better without the noise. Much of the noise from an apprentice comes from the chute assembly going into the discrminator. I have experimented with simply putting my fingertips on the bottom of the chute and on the holder, and it cuts it down quite a bit. I guess one could find some foam or something to put around it, as long as it didn't interfere with coin travel. Simple solution is to just wear earplugs. Andy |

I have not up to this point. I have been irritated by the noise of my apprentice only when I get too close to it in an attempt to extract a wheat from the copper bin. I sometimes listen to my iPod when sorting. |
