I read on survivalblog.com today that it is recommended to have at least $1,000.00 face value of 90% silver per person on hand for survival purposes. That just seems very high to me. A married couple would have to have over 20 thousand dollars tied up in silver alone to meet that recommendation.
Anyone have any thoughts as to how much silver and/or gold on hand is enough for survival purposes? A very broad question, but any thoughts are appreciated.

Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

So far I've got about 135 total ounces of silver split among bullion, 90 percent coins and war nickels, but that's just my SHTF money that I will use to trade up at some point. My bigger-picture plan is something like this:

I plan to live in the city for as long as possible so that I won't be all alone in the abandoned suburbs (never mind that I don't care much for suburbia anyway) and want to be a part of a bigger community that can't be found out in the boondocks. WTSHTF, most of us should want to be connected to others so we'll have people we can help and who can help us. IMO, WTSHTF is not the time most of us should want to be alone. So I'm planning to stake out a place where I can start creating the conditions to survive for as long as possible and help others survive as well. Check out You must be logged in to see this link. to see what I've got in mind. <-- Thanks to me2 for pointing me to that. |

I remember when I used to have a $1000 bag of silver dimes in one of my safety deposit boxes. The bank employees hated it when I wanted to open that box.. LOL. Of course silver was a lot cheaper then.. wish I still had that bag.
How much silver is enough? You might as well ask how much food is enough? |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

| Most of my silver is in 40% halves. Should I keep them or trade them for 90% silver? |

i guess it would depend on what you plan on doing with them and how much you have in them. id just buy some 90percent while hanging on to what you allready have |

Of course more the better but that should not stop you from doing what you can now. I look at it this way, in the land of the blind the one eyed man is King.
If we get to the point where our survival depends on 90% silver then you will have to give at least equal weight as to how you will protect the silver that you got. |

Of the four Gs of survival (God, groceries, guns and gold), I have plenty of the guns part. |

Doesn't everyone in Texas? We're about to have a new gun owner in my house soon.
Ha! That may be true for rural areas. |
