I have been reading the older posts and there seems to be some question as to if Brinks is doing a little sorting themselves. I went out yesterday and bought 4 boxes from 4 different banks, 1 of them was a Brinks box and one was loose customer rolls. I was a bit leary about what to expect from the Brinks...
I just finished sorting it. I got 17 wheats, the oldest being a '20 along with the WW2('39-'45) years except '43. I also got an 1889 Indian Head. Plus 61 Canadians and 70 1982's. My cu ratio was a little higher that normal too. Being pleasantly suprised I went back to the same bank and bought another box. I'm getting ready to carve into that one here in a little bit. I'm hoping that first box was part of a bigger batch...
Has anybody else gotten loose rolls turn in by customers and still have the S.S # from the person who turned them in? With identity fraud at almost epidemic levels this seems like a really stupid thing for banks to be doing. It's got me thinking twice turning in rolled coins when they ask for a S.S.# on them...

I have never put any identifying info on any of my coin deposits. One temp teller told me once that my bag of cents must have my account number on it. I told her she was the first one to ever tell me that and then I ignored her, she did it herself.
I have seen phone numbers, account numbers, names and even addresses but never SS#'s.

My red marking on the zinc return rolls ought to be enough for the banks to know who brought them in. A name would probably be the farthest I would go. I have not been requested otherwise from my dump bank. |

If I were asked for my ss number to put on rolls, I'd ask for my rolls back!!! I'd take them to another bank. |

When I got the 1550 Ike dolls I was trying so hard to find out the guys name who turned them in but to no avail. If I did get some really great rolls and it had the peoples name on it I would try my best to track them down and just be honest and tell them I'm a coin collector. Derek |

Bluegill, If this is a bank where you are a member, you may want to share your concerns with the manager, A SS# by itself although potentially troubling isn't much use without a name. Personally I can't believe with all the banking rules they would actually do this. I had a discussion the other day with my bank manager about having to put my account # on penny rolls. I just reminded her that if it was an issue I would deposit them and my other $ at another bank. Guess what... I got few more rolls of new pennies right after the discussion. $$$talks. even pennies. |

Derek, I have been skunked too when it comes to finding Indians. Must be something about New York. Heard from my bank that I have competition now too. The word is spreading. May the best penny hoarder win. |
