Suppose that you made a commodity product for sale. The profits from it were never very good, but this year you sell for 20% more than the last decade or so. Then after you sold all that you had, the price doubled then tripled finally going to 8 times the old price. All of your input costs have now more than tripled also.
This happened in the wheat market this year. I'm not in this market personally, but my relatives are. I wouldn't have believed that anyone could experience this much inflation, but there it is.
