I found one...I found one. !!!!

It is 1900. I don't know if it is in that good of shape. It is real red and has a little bit of green on it.

I take it trying to wash it up is a bad idea right?

Congratulation good find. Finds like that have a way of keeping you motivated. Even motivates the rest of us for whom the Indian head still seems to elude.

This weekend, within a 5 minute period, I found a blank zinc planchet and a 1909 probably in VG condition. If only the 1909 was a 1909S VDB!!

Not to hijack this thread, but I've known some VERY serious collectors of Hello Kitty coins!

Gotta say I'm jealous. Been sorting so long I lost track and still have found the elusive Indian head in my travels. Guess I'll keep trying, maybe someday I can join the club.
CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations! I knew you would find one eventually. You get a discount on coppers and a discount on wheats. I can combine shipping with your 10 pound bag of used penny wrappers.. I already have the shipping address..

I can't give up the T-shirt though, I only have one of those. It shows a bunch of grinning Indians in a circle looking down. The caption reads "Custer's Last View"

Welcome to the Club!

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I'm still looking, but truth be told I'm only giving the zincs a cursory once over and I"m not even sorting through the coppers yet.

Now if I could only justify a second Ryedale and calibrate it with a zinc penny. Then the zinc from the first sort could go straight into it and the rare coins would just pop right out!

For me though the game is all about high-throughput. Hopefully there will be some nice old wheats and Indian Heads in the copper I'm hoarding, so I'll find them someday. As for the few that slip through with the zincs, well that's the price I pay for focusing on quantity over quality.

Happy hunting all!

All I can say to that is, "Yep." I pretty much do the same. I need another....I'm one of those "first-pass-is-a-zinc-pass" guys. I eyeball the zincs as they come out. My problem is the resorting of the coppers. I would just rather sort more zinc out for more capitol. I have a lot of "batches" that need resorted. Who knows what is in them....

Congratulations on the find. I am jealous. After about a year of hand sorting, I still have not found one. But, if I ever do, I may have it framed and put up in my office somewhere -- even if it is worn nearly flat.

Of all the old coins that are known to still inhabit the "circulated realm," I think the Indian Head penny may be the most difficult to find. I have found Buffalo nickels, silver war nickels, and even Walking Liberty half dollars in boxes of coin, but the Feather Liberty eludes me still!

"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark
