Wow!

Due to too much demand apmex.com, to my knowledge one of the largest online markets for precious metals in the world, has had to suspend online trading for a few days while it upgrades it's servers!

Here's their email to me.

Sounds like it's getting serious guys and gals!

Dear William,

Due to the OVERWHELMING demand for precious metals, our online ordering system has been unable to keep up with our customers’ needs. We have had to disable the APMEX ordering system to allow us ample time to upgrade our site to accommodate the increased demand. We apologize for this temporary problem. In the mean time, we will be accepting telephone orders for the following items only as we have them available:

• 1 ounce Gold American Eagles
• 1 ounce Gold Canadian Maple Leafs
• 1 Ounce Gold Krugerrands
• 100 oz Silver Bars
• Misc Generic .999 Fine Silver
• 90% Coin Silver

During this time, we will have a minimum order of $5,000. We regret we have had to make this drastic change to our ordering process and rest assured, we are working expeditiously to correct the problem. As soon as we have our new site up and running, we will notify you via e-mail when you can again place orders online.

You may contact us during normal business hours Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm cst. (800) 375-9006

If you have existing orders with us, we have in-stock all items needed to fulfill your orders and are shipping them as scheduled. Once our new site is functional, we will be able to activate our complete inventory line again.

Respectfully,

Scott Thomas
President & CEO

the site was unavailable for a large part of yesterday. i got lucky and got a real small order in. now their minimum order is WAY to deep for these pockets so i guess its off to ebay -- where lots of stuff is still over spot from a few days ago

I just saw where the US Mint is sold out of Silver Eagles. People are really taking advantage of this big drop in prices to buy buy buy!

If they can find any that is!

Monday morning and apmex.com is still down for online ordering.

How are the prices for silver so low when there is none to be had for purchase?

Something strange is going on, and I just hope that the two purchases I made with apmex.com are going to be delivered as promised!

Going on 5 business days that apmex.com has had their online ordering shut down.

At first I thought they were just upgrading their servers, but now I'm thinking they just don't have enough stock to make small orders worth their while.

I hope I get confirmation of my last two silver orders shipping before too long or I'll start to worry!

Can you even believe it, the day after I placed an order they went offline.

If only I could harness that power for good, I could join the cast of Hero's!

There is alot of talk of there being a physical silver shortage. You may see silver prices rocket upward if there is any truth to this. It sounds like the US Mint cant produce enough of the silver eagles because of the silver shortage. I purchased 200 90% silver halves at a bit below melt today just in case it's true about the shortage. If not, I will throw them into long term storage as a hedge against this out of control inflation.

It's a week now and apmex.com is still down for online ordering and account tracking.

This very much looks like a problem with their supply since I can't imagine it would take them so long to upgrade their website.

They do have 90% junk silver coins for sale at spot, $1,000 minimum, but only to established customers.

Maybe I should get just one more batch.....

Hey William...is that $1,000 face minimum, or $1,000 minimum purchase? I wouldnt mind getting more but dont feel like spending $12-$13K (if it was $1,000 minimum face purchase).

AMPEX is about 5 miles from where I live, you can still walk in and purchase smaller orders, but it's fairly crazy over there.

Well they finally received my payment for my latest (and last) silver order.

It took this one 8 business days to get there, even though it was sent certified mail.

They are being nice and not canceling my order or anything, so I'm ok.
