| You know, I've thought about that. It's possible, as about 42 million of them were made. I mean, the difference between an 1880s (which I've found) and 1857 is only 30 years... |

| they only made flying eagle cents from 1856-1858. and they are worth about $25 if they are in good shape, unless it is a 1856 valued at over $6,000. |

| Oldest coin I have gotten so far in circulation is an 1864.. close, but no cigar. I have one of those 1856 Flying Eagle cents.. it is an altered 1858. |

| when i make quotations i should note that the speaker is one of the uninformed. i know then the eagles flew but as we all know , when info goes from person to person, facts become garbled, that is why the quotation marks. hopefully i will see the coin monday or tuesday |

Centsless did you ever get a chance to look at that Flying Eagle?
I found one about a week ago. Couldn't believe it when I seen it I had to look twice. It is a 1857 not in the best shape but the date is nice and clear so it might be a $40.00 coin. Wish it would have been one year older!! |

As there are certianly no more IHP out there - this flying eagle non-sense is really over the top. Next you guys will be telling us all that there are gold coins in your penny bags. Like the $145 one on ebay. |

| Even if th flying eagle is thicker, I believe that it could be rolled. Didn't someone here find a nickel in a roll a couple of months back? |

Actually someone in one of my coin clubs did find a quarter eagle in a penny roll once. It is still on my list of coins to find. I just need to "sort more." |

quarter eagles are my favorite gold coin. especially when i paid about 60 bucks for each of mine years ago before the gold explosion. nice to know i can go to the coin store i got them from 5 years later and sell for 3x what i paid for it. someday id like to get a nice graded D or C mintmark. mine are all circulated, some heavily. but hey....its gold!!
actually hoard i read back in this post and ive got an altered 1858 flying eagle too. i still put it in the book as a 1856 though. can always dream right? |

It was me, and I recall posting a thread about it almost right away. Blew my mind when I found it in an NF String roll. I'm pretty sure the thread is around here somewhere. I'd say it was about a month ago that I posted it.
No major penny finds since, though on a slightly related note I did get a good box of halves a couple weeks ago. May/June must have been big months for coin dumps, all my boxes last month were incredible. |
