Just wondering how many collectors on this forum have recently or are currently listing pennies on E-Bay. It seems that they are very popular now.

I know there are a few that have them listed on there. With ebay taking approx. a 10% of your sale, it can be hard to swallow sometimes though.I've actually been buying some wheats on there lately for decent prices, just not the 5000 count bags.I'm pretty sure people go on there and under lincoln cents type in 5000 for the search .I look through there for the weird auctions.A few weeks back I bought a 610 and 1050 lot of them with many teens and such and paid about .05 each.

I bought a bag of 5,000 a few weeks ago on eBay--I don't have time to sort coppers from zincs, so this works for me. I don't like paying more than $80 or so per 5,000--just my personal preference.

Buying them on eBay is a good alternative to build your hoard if you don't have time or the machine to sort them yourself. You can also buy direct from some hoarders and get a slightly better price when there are no ebay and paypal fees. I sold at least a bag a week on eBay for over a year. The eBay bite just got to be a little too much. It seems like it is actually over 10% after the new fee hike and the PayPal fees. When the majority of the price is just recovering your face value paying those percentages really hurts. I stopped listing them on eBay in protest when they jacked their fees up and called it a decrease.

I have bought them on eBay as well. Sometimes they go really cheap. I like buying them as cheaply as possible also.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I put some on Ebay every once in a while just to create more capital to get more pennies :) I also but silver coinage periodically on there because there are actually some pretty good deals in medium sized lots.

Good to see a fellow Californian on the board penny. What is your ebay seller name? I am slotdragracer on there. I'm sure more than a few of the members here have been watchers on my auctions. Heck, some were bidders and even winners.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Dont you love how EBay tried to spin it as a positive for everyone? I threw a few items on there the other day and it looked to me like the listing fees were the same, but the final value fees higher. When you add those up and take out the Paypal fees, it really puts a big dent in your pocket. You're better off creating a generic website and paying the $9.99 through godaddy.

I'm selling some on e-Bay now. The fees are high, but you don't have to pay google for advertising. Very soon we will have our site up, and things will be better!

Does anyone here have experience with setting up an ecommerce site? Or even HTML? I have a little HTML knowledge but really basic stuff and not enough to set up an alternative to EBay.

I sold enough on there to recoup my investment in the Ryedale and that's it for me for a while until I get my hoard to where I want it. After that I may sell a few boxes here and there to generate more capital if they're selling for a decent price. I asked people not to use PayPal and to mail payment instead. All but one customer did.

Having them not use PayPal helps. There is another option that is even more convenient. You open 2 PayPal accounts.. 1 business account (to satisfy eBay requirements) and a personal PayPal account that you pay no fees on when funds are transferred to it. If the person sending the funds marks it as an auction payment or says it is for goods it goes against your $500 monthly receiving limit. If they say the payment is for services (ie copper sorting) then it does not count against your monthly limit.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
