I think 1.5x would be great.. if they would take a vacation to come pick them up. I only have $1050 of them sealed with #1 copper in $50 cloth bank bags. I also have 86 empty cloth bank bags that I would give to the person picking them up, some are like new.. that is from less then a year with my sorter. maybe in a couple years (more coins) I would be willing to make a vacation and delever
(current totals however they change each week) |

Members, you can use this forum to discuss buying and selling pennies or nickels in general, but please don't put together deals or make offers here. Like Candianbullion, you can post links to Buy, Sell, Trade in the body of your post or in your signature. If you think it would help I can try to move Buy, Sell, Trade up in the forum listings. |

misteroman.. you have to get one. I am afraid to ring mine.. it is a rather large bell and would hurt a lot if I were to be rung upside the head with it. You could crank up the stereo and play that song "You can Ring, Ring, Ring, Ring my bell" while sorting.
Well, it looks like the market is developing for the copper cents.. the buyers and sellers just have to work out the spread and the shipping in the buy/sell forum. I have occasionally bought some myself because I know how much work is involved in generating them.. even with the best equipment. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

NES, maybe one of the sorters on here will want to dump some on us so they have real money to get more bags/boxes? I have first dibs though
1.5x is just a bit too low, even to free up some hunting cash. I might consider 2-2.25x (my wife told me I could make more just working part time at McD's) lots of work involved:
- find coins
- carry into house
- open rolls
- Ryedale sort
- count zincs & bag
- count coppers & box
- carry zincs back to car
- return zincs back to bank
I am like others that hope/expect a 5X+ face value once the ban is lifted.
Except for me replace *Rydale sort* with *lots of human labor* :D
What makes you think the ban is going to be lifted? |

Cyber, I agree 1,000% with you.I sort the pennies by hand for the Excitement(every time I get a wheatie, I call out to my Wife WHEATIE!!!) and to pull the CU's and not really for the profitability. In my life I'm pretty stictly a businessman,I don't wear a suit or tie but most of what I do is for a long term goal/future.I've collected coins on and off since I was about 10 and have always pulled the oddball coin out and put it in the jar. For me I would never buy a sorter because then,to me, it would start to turn into a job and I couldn't just be a big kid sorting pennies.
I am the complete opposite; This provides a way for a 15 year old to make some dough and use his spare time with something worthwhile, and if I had the money I would buy a Ryedale. |

LOL, you could also Get a job doing dishes or something of that nature for $8-10 an hour and I bet you'll make wayyyyyyyyy more money. It wouldn't be as fun now but if you are doing this to make money and to use up your free time then the job would be the better way to go.Could actually save up enough in a month or two to pick up a Ryedale as well.I think most states let you work at 15 in certain places. With a Ryedale.. and the right high speed automatic counting and rolling equipment for zinc disposal it actually does pencil.. but the volume has to justify the capital investment.
Without a Ryedale.. "Would you like fries with that, sir?" is a much more lucrative option.
But for fun.. it doesn't really matter. |

You can't really get a job here in Wa at all till your 18, especially because the minimum wage is about 8$ an hour. |

I'm with alot of u. It's all about the hobby of it, like when I was a kid starting my Lincoln collection. A sorting machine would be a waste of my time. And by the way, I am selling every copper I can get, for 2 cents. |

As far a pennies sellers and buyers...I think some are really capitalizing on the paranoia of everyone else. To answer you question, the price hasn't come down because it doesn't really exist. You can't smelt the pennies. So some are just making a buck off some smuts that think the return is going to be soon. No way I would buy a Lincoln, but you can buy mine...for now. |

The smuts are the ones holding dollars in bank accounts that are making negative returns versus inflation. |

Hmm, that's strange. The largest internet market says otherwise. And last I checked it was people who set the price. |

How many do you have for sale? Oh yeah, it probably isn't very many since you don't have a machine and you wouldn't want to waste your valuable time sorting them. Probably not enough to even make up a single shipment.
I would buy them.. but I wouldn't want you to think I am a smut. Oh well, maybe I can buy some from somebody else. |

As far as penny buyers and sellers go, for every seller there is a buyer. We call that CAPITALISM. Yes the market does set the price. |

I suggest you go back and reread the definition of Capitalism as originally coined by Marx. |

Penny hoarding is a primarily speculative endeavor at this point, and the speculation is predicated on the theoretical melt value of a penny---just like 90% silver. A few people are selling at a profit, but they're the exception. We still have a long way to go. The U.S. and Canadian Mints haven't even stopped minting the penny yet!
