While dumping zincs the other day, the machine stopped. The second penny bag had ripped during the mechanical transition from one bag to the next because it hadn't been secured properly. Anyway, the manager was really cool. He came right over with a smile (he really likes my copper scheme) and opened the coin counting machine. Pennies came pouring out. After scooping them up for him,
I carried the filled bags to the counter which he seemed to appreciate). While he was changing the bags I saw a bag at the end that saves rejects. The machine was not spitting these back out for the customer, but was in effect "sorting" them out! This bag was no joke, and was about half-full of what looked to be wondrous treasures. I immediately asked him what happened to that bag, and I asked him whether or not I could purchase it. Unfortunately, he had a strange story about how theoretically it could be purchased at face value, yet then all of a sudden it was like, "We have to send those back." I don't know what to believe. I'm going to either keep working the manager, or I may find out when the coin machine guy comes and have a friendly talk with him. The manager, as nice as he is, felt that he had to follow policy (I guess with all the cameras and everything, it wouldn't look too good). Wish me luck, as this bag truly looked to be brimming with silver and golden-toned coins (some two-toned), as well as what looked to be a massive amount of old copper and a wealth of foreign junk.

I hope you get it. I know a lot of banks around here just throw the foreign coins in the trash. It is cheaper for them that way than to try to redeem them.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I had a peek at the halves during a penny bag changing and they looked like they were full of treasures. was interested to see what the halves looked like. I asked the Forum Credit Union I use for a dump location if there was any way to purchase the bags, and they said no. I may ask a different person next time.

Around here they throw them away if I don't get to them first....

Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. I usually don't buy bags at forums because I don't want to "confuse" my dump bank by both buying and returning pennies at the same time. For some reason some people think that is strange. :)

However at one forum I asked one person if I could buy bags and they said no that they had to send them in. Then several weeks later I asked a different person at the same bank the same question and they said they would be happy to sell me the bags. (I only bought bags once and only because I knew the bags were not mine since I had not been to the bank in a couple of weeks.) So go figure, but I bet you save them money by buying bags and you just need to talk to somebody who cares...

If we went to the same forum, I would tell you who to talk to, but I know that we don't and in any case you might end up buying my dump bags by mistake. :)

I had almost the exact experience a few weeks ago at Meriwest Credit Union. The half bag was catching all forms of change and they pulled it out for me to get a cursory inspection! bought the bag after a peek!

my machine is running!

Today I got a peek at my bank's "reject bag." My heart skipped a beat: it was brimming with all sorts of treasure---foreign coins, rings, unidentifiable pieces of metal, and who knows what else. I inquired about buying it, the teller said no, so I begged and pleaded as best I could without losing all dignity. The nice lady teller eventually reached in the bag and handed me a handful a dusty treasure. "Don't say I never gave you anything!" she said in a very flirtatious way. My eyes widened when a saw what I got: a 10% silver Mexican coin, a dog tag, a bunch of bent euros, and a 1/8 slice of a Morgan dollar! Ahhh!!

When I was returning half dollars in one of those machines from a box of skunks, the machine shorted me like $8.00 or 16 halves out of $500. I talked to the teller and later they found them in the junk bag and credited my account. So, I don't trust those machines for counting anything but pennies. Maybe some of my pennies end up in the junk bag, but the ones that it counts as dimes or nickels hopefully makes up for the ones that it junks.

Next time that I go to the bank with the "friendly" teller, I am going to ask about the junk bag. Though most likely it will just get me worked up over something that I can't have...

I talked with the manager of my newest dump bank a few days ago. He said that he WILL save me any bags I want IF I give him notice. No word on the reject bag yet, but I think he'll let me look through it eventually as rapport builds. Any suggestions on what I should buy? I'm thinking it might be kind of fun to get a $500 bag of dimes.
