Hi all,
Just came across an odd penny. It's a 1958 D with the LMC reverse. The coin makes a thud sound when dropped and feels lighter than a zinc penny. Also the reverse is that lined up with the obverse.
I figure it may be a novelty coin. Does anyone know how to open a spy coin if it is one?
It's pretty cool and in good condition so i don't want to destroy it just to open it up.

Not really sure what to do with it, kind of just want to open it up if it's hollow. |

Probably a magicians coin or just a prank of some kind. People try to get rich in many different ways. |

I never considered the possibility of a 1958 memorial, but I would like to someday find a 1959 wheat. I don't recall either ever being reported anywhere in the numismatic community. Were there? |

In one of the books, only '1' ever reported and verified by the mint. I still check! |

JobIII...that's really cool. Let us know if it is a "spy coin" and if you get it open if there is anything neat inside.
I, too, always look at the reverses for the 1958, but more for the 1959. One can always hope.
Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. |
