I have a recycling company that is going to be coming to my home tomorrow to buy some circuit boards from me,and they also buy copper. They said they are giving over $3 a pound,is this a good price or should I hold on to my stash?

If I was offered over $3 a pound I would unload my whole stash right now. That is a very good price for my area, as it is going for $2.25 a pound.

I'd pull the trigger at $3 too, I'm sitting on over 600 pounds of #1. It was $2.60 last I checked around here.

Copper on the trading market shot up 11 cents today!!! I haven't seen that jump in YEARS. Feel bad for my officer friends as they'll be taking copper theft reports out the wazoo.
Does anyone know how fast the scrap yards react to the market prices??

Looking for a great summer read?? Stop by www.glennrambo.com You think the US/Mexican border is bad now??

Well since I am still learning, and this is my first time selling copper,I had been putting all my copper together, and bailing it. Today I learned that is not the way I should be doing it. I got rid of all my circuit boards, and my mixed copper(not sure how many pounds it was)for $524.00.

So I got some money, plus it was a learning experience.

So you sold your scrap and never weighed it? Your right, you have a lot to learn. Always know your weights before you sell, even if you have to weigh you scrap on a bathroom scale. You may have had $1000.00 worth of scrap there and never knew it!

I am new to this. My sisters boyfriend has been scrapping for awhile, and he came off as he new all about it,but today he was surprised to hear that the #1,and #2 copper had to be separated.

They made it seem like it wasn't even worth the time to weight it since it was mixed. Lesson learned. This is why I come to this site,so I can learn, even if it's from my mistakes.

Life is a tough teacher, gives the test first, and the lesson later.

At least you are willing to listen and learn.

So a lesson for you now. If you mix any two grades of any metal, you will always get paid for the lower grade no matter the ratio. Take your #1 & #2 copper. Since you had it mixed, you should have gotten #2 price for the whole lot. Not worth the time to weigh it? Always weigh, period. How much did you get per pound for the copper and the boards?

Just how did you find this recycling company? I get lots of calls from traveling buyers offering to buy my scrap or industrial surplus. They are always offering a fantastic price for #1 copper. Some may be honest, but I've heard some are not.

Once I asked the woman calling on the phone if they had portable scales and she said "They don't need scales, they're SCRAPPERS!"

Thanks for the lesson silversaddle. I am unsure of what I got per pound for the copper, and boards, because I don't know how many pounds I had. I need to invest in a scale.

I thought I had done good, but now I am starting to think I got had.

I was given their flyer that my Mom's boyfriend received through a fax at work. They did say that they had a scale on the truck when he called them to make the appointment for pick up. They are called Tommy's Liquidation.

I always know, at least roughly, how much I have. Must admit though, the yard I go to has been very straight up with me.

Are you throwing that out?
