I was just wonder on average what % of coins are pre-82 when you break them down. I live in a small town and got $20 from one of the local banks and I estimate that I got just under 1/3 copper compared to zinc. Only a couple wheats and 2 pre-80 canadians. But maybe the advantage of living in the small town area is that the pennies might have been in town and stayed here since original distrobution. LOL just a thought.

1/3-1/4 normal but I have had boxes close to 50/50 those are getting harder to find. I started running ads buying pennies at weight and using family members (grandmother she always have alot of pennies) to get more copper.Banks at least by me are becoming useless. |

When I drop in at a bank I usually ask for five bucks worth of pennies. The side of town I work on has 7 banks on the main drag. I try not to hit a bank more than once a week.
BTW asking for $5 is no big deal, ask for $10 and the tellers never have enough in their drawer/safe and have to ask others and then the whole staff gets involved and the experience takes on negative connotations, so five it is.
Anyway I got 10 rolls today and just my luck, all new Filly shield pennies. Skunked. I usually get 20~25% copper. The Zincers will go to my CU next week. Damn I love that Cummins counter, and no fee if deposited in your account. |

My normal percentages run about 40% in bags right now. Up from last year. Of course some are heavy while some are light. Boxes are running 20-30%.
Hey new guys, if you set up a date with the bank to pick up coins, they are usually more helpful. It is not a suprise to them. Feel free to bank shop. And don't fret on being new at this. We all were once. Large scale or small just keep up the searches.

I have no shame in my game. Just tell them you sort and collect cents and ask for a box or two of $25 in cents. Then they'll ask the manager for the safe key and that's it. One WAMU (now Chase) branch was happy when I asked for cents. She brought out two big sealed plastic bags and asked me, "Do you want them all." I said, "heck ya" and she seemed relieved I took them off her hands. I think some of the tellers think I'm crazy but that's okay because it's partly true .
I think percentages depends on your location, whether there are lots of businesses or not. I rarely pick up boxes in my area(Downtown L.A.) because the percentages are so low(10% or lower and maybe 1-3 wheats per $25 box). |

Just look around the site a bit more and you'll run into al kinds of useful info. There is a particular tracking thread called buying reports and sorting percentages, might want to run through it to get a better Idea. Welcome to the forum and happy sorting!!

Just hand sorted my first $10 worth of pennies since I was a little kid collecting rare wheats. Found one wheat, a 1959 canadian and a 1926 British farthing. Percentage of coppers found was 25%. |

I average 30% Cu in bricks and bags in central Indiana pretty consistently. My nickel percentages are around 99.99% Cu/Ni so I don't really sort those, just hoard. |

Get between 15-20% with a decent box. Customer rolls sometimes are better with upwards of 50% but I dont get those too often.
I have found the easiest way to get cents is to just as for a box as the bank. They usually have them in their coin vault or the tellers small vault and not too many people have to get involved. Have one bank now that a teller there saves me her customer rolled cents. Just swing by every few weeks and pick them up. |

Picked up 3 boxes at work today. So far I'm getting around 24%. These were coins from the counting machine. The other 2 boxes are Brinks sealed so I'm not sure about those yet. |
