I have several options for dumping halves - I have a couple of Wells Fargo branches that will let me dump bags and a B of A that will let me dump bags.
My problem is I have 2 Wells Fargos that will order me 1k of halves and yesterday I think I ended up with some of the same halves I had checked before and dumped at another Wells Fargo
Am I better off just dumping at B of A since I dont pick up any halves there?
These are the bank wrapped rolls that I have ordered every week.

I am also a member of a credit union where I can bring them in wrapped although they aren't too thrilled when I dump there. The larger banks that do a lot of merchant orders don't seem to mind. |

Are you marking the coins so you know you are getting the same ones or does it just seem like it?
B of A and wells could be supplies by the same armored carrier so that might not solve your problem. |

No maybe I should start putting a black mark on them?
The way I could tell is there was a pretty dingy 1976 with a hole at the top that I sorted last week and I saw it again yesterday. Of course, I ended up with a 1980 S proof that I had not seen before but I think the 1976 was the one I saw last week.
I don't want to weird out the tellers and ask who is your armored car company so I can see if Chase, Wells, and B of A all use the same one. |

I do live in a large city so would dumping them in another part of town work or would they just eventually end up back to me? |

Armored's don't typically wrap a lot of halves so you may be getting the ones you have searched plus some new ones. Halves come in $50,000 skids so when they wrap they will just wrap the partial skid that they have instead of going into the pile and wrapping a new/full skid. So when you dump $1k it will most likely get processed and than go onto that partial skid. Than when they wrap halves the "sorted halves" will get mixed in with the unsorted and wrapped. So unless you start doing a bigger volume you may be getting the halves back because you keep "rotating" halves off of that partial skid.
No, being in a bigger town won't help you out. Every branch in that town will be served by the same armored and that armored will be getting halves from the same place every time. Even if you go to BOA they may still be getting the halves from the same place because there will only be 1 coin depot or terminal in that town.
You will always be getting new halves because theres at least some halves being dumped every week, but most likely you will at least seem some of the halves you have already sorted. Your best bet is to get loose halves right off of a banks coin counter. |

I saw on another forum a guy said the self checkout at the WalMart he was at took them. Last I tried a couple of years ago they did not, but may that has changed. That is one way of getting rid of some if it is true. I am going to try this weekend at the WalMart near where I live to see if it works there. |

I spend them. It's easy for me to spend $1,000+ per week on gas, diesel, trash dump fees, motel rooms, and buying materials for my construction company. No one has ever complained to me about it. In fact, many times the people in line behind me will buy them from the cashier. The only problem is it is time consuming.
"Where did you get all these?!" is usually a question I get. My best answer so far has been: "These babies make great poker chips!". It gets a laugh every time. |

PennySaved,
What are you percentages so far?
I am getting 6 keepers for every 1,000 so far. Best was a CWR with 4 90% & 9 40%! |

It is very hit and miss. I got a box last weekend that had 11 40% and then I'll get a box with nothing |

You pretty much have to assume you are going to get some of your halves back no matter where you dump or pick up. All us half sorters are resorting each other's halves if we don't get our own back. Usually it is better not to dump large quantities at your source bank. The deal I have with the bank that orders me halves every week is that they are a source bank, and will never be a dump bank.
Another place I found to dump halves is at a casino.. they actually use them. |

Do the casinos cash them for free? |

Some do.. you just have to ask. I just walk in with a couple of heavy bags and ask them if they will convert it into folding money so I can play Blackjack. They are usually happy to oblige. There machines are as fast as the ones I have at home too.. very convenient. |

I have to roll some and I can dump some. Several banks around here have started pulling the coin machines out and that has seriously hampered my ability to dump halves. The one bank I can really dump halves at complains if I fill the machine too much. I've been getting so many skunks lately I'm considering quitting halves. It's been a lot of 1 40% with 3-4 skunks in the middle. I got my best box in months last night. 7-40% and 2-90%. Wow. |

Congrats fb101 on your last box. For myself, I just picked up a box from my source bank today and plan to open it up during my out of town business trip coming up. Makes the time fly in the hotel rooms. |
