I imagine this has been covered on here already, but I'm typing for work and just wanted to ask rea quick--

Aside from the obvious reason to hoard spent ammo shell casings (reloading!), is it worth the time to save or collect them for the copper they contain? Obviously copper pennies and such are more practical in terms of the space they take up per pound, but is there now, or do you ever see there being a scrap market for spent shell casings? Thanks

I have taken in spent casings several times, and have had no problems getting brass prices, even with the primers still in them.

Forget about the "scrap market" for cartridge brass. It is worth FAR more as... cartridge brass!!

Reloaders pay good money for it, and depending on the caliber maybe in VERY short supply. Want top dollar for it? Get a tumbler and run it in that to clean it.

We have members who are MUCH more knowledgable than I on this topic, but shell casings have a high zinc content, and as I said, fetch good money, as is, from reloaders.

Sometimes it is better NOT to melt/scrap.

I bet I have 10lbs of spent casings just from metal detecting. I was gonna put them in with my other brass, but I better do some re-thinking. Tumbler huh...
